And if you noticed the rest of my post, I said now there's no point in sending Marmol back to the minors.

I'm not so sure there is no point. The two things he needs are innings and control. The Cubs are a notorious pitch to avoid contact team. He might be a lot better off racking up those innings without trying to avoid major league bats, and that can be done in the minors better than the majors.

Does anybody else question the theory that he was tipping his pitches? They said Arizona was laying off borderline pitches-I didn't really see any borderline pitches the first 2 innings. It looked instead that he was throwing most of his pitches a foot off the plate, and his strikes were easy ones right over the middle with Arizona sitting dead red.

Hey this Juan Cruz kid is good. We should look into getting him to pitch for us.

He's good, but he doesn't have the upside of Andy Pratt.

I just got a chance to turn on the game. So they are on pace to lose to Juan Cruz. Did they lose to him earlier this year in Arizona(i.e. was he credited with the win)?

Cruz shut out the Cubs earlier this year.

Yes, he threw 5 innings of shut out ball.

ok, I couldn't remember. I just remember that it was a 2 game series and the Cubs' starters were Maddux and Hill.

Did Jacque ever get a base hit on an 0-2 count yet? I remember Len and Bob mentioning that earlier in the season.

Yep. June 28th against the Cards, bottom of the 7th inning.

Jacque Jones (pitch sequence): Strike (foul), Strike (looking), Ball, Ball, J Jones singled to left, A Ramirez to second, M Murton hit for S Eyre

If I remember correctly, the game was stopped and Jacque was given the keys to a Chevy Avalanche.

That was superb.

Pittsburgh just beat Atlanta 3-2. So after this one in Chicago, they will be only 3 behind the Cubs.

I actually thought the Cubs would avoid the cellar.

I just noticed Dusty had a chance to make a double switch last inning, but passed, to go with the more traditional, just pinch hit for the reliever next inning. Of course, Aardsma hasn't pitched in several days, so this would have actually been a good time to double switch him in so as to avoid overtaxing the bullpen in the first game of a double header.

Len said earlier that Ronny will play SS in the 2nd game. What better way to teach him how to play 2B? But oh wait, Dusty has to play Neifi at 2nd.

Get Baker's worthless rear out of this city.

Oh, and I don't like paying 40 bucks to sit in the rain for an hour, then have to leave before it is called for circumstances outside my control so I can't get a refund.

Really? Now that is stupid.
