-shouldn't hendry be out of here if he does nothing? i think we miss out if we don't move at least walker and maddux. we will not have them next year so why not get something.

we also need to make decisions on pierre, jones and nevin.

aram is also a possibility. he could bring some decent offers.

we are bad. we are bad when healthy..we are worse injured. other than deciding if dusty cab get it done there is no reason to keep many of these guys in order to try to move up slightly in the standings.

if we plan on bringing back pierre then get him signed, if not get some prospects back for him

jones has done exactly what we thought he would but in my opinion keepinh him means that you can not keep pie and murton. so he is blocking the only position players we are close to developing. if we keep murton and/or pie it's hard to keep jones...you are then stuck with an outfield that won't hit 45 combined hrs. can't have that at wrigley...take a look at our home record.

if we are to contend we need to more bats and 2 more starting pitchers- real ones. the pitching should be easier because we will have money from wood and maddux but we need to go after someone and sign them. do not settle for plan b or c!

they should Platoon Murton and jones in right and sign a power hitting left fielder or trade for one I would love to see them go after Miggly Cabrera since it dosent lok like we would be able to ger C Lee,Soriano, Or Abreu in the field.... One rumor was sending maddux to the dodgers for Izturis and then sending Izturis and prospects tot he orioles for Tejada, now that would be a nice 3 team deal...

You think it would be easier to trade for "miggly" than sign Lee or Soriano as free agents?

Jim Hendry = Kofi Annan

Despite the need to take action, watching on the sidelines seems to be satisfactory.

Part of me is afraid that he will do something. I'm afraid because it's probably not out of the realm of possibility that the major addition the Cubs make will be either Willy Tavaras or Cesar Izturis.

I hope he does nothing. The best thing he could do is nothing.

I don't think it's the best thing he could do, but I'm resigned to the fact that he'll most likely do nothing. Pierre could fetch some prospects but I also wouldn't mind offering him arbitration and taking the draft pick. Bench players are always in demand and since we aren't going anywhere I think we could ship Walker and Nevin somewhere...maybe even Mabry too but I don't think he's too valuable. Blanco has also been pretty hot recently and backup C's are in demand right now. Maddux could fetch some decent prospects in return. There are plenty of moves that he could make to dump some salary and get younger while maintaining a similar talent level, but he probably won't.

Hendry: "Ahh, I like where we are? Obviously, we have a solid core to work around. There are no need for any trades this summer". .

I can imagine him saying that.

Hendry will make a similar trade like John Koronka for Freddie Bynum. Whats up with Freddie? What value did Hendry see in him that it took a three way deal to get him while giving up a top tier prospect who now is perfoming ok in Texas? I know Freddies been hurt, but where did Hendry think he was going to play? Oh, thats right - we needed a second basemen.

These are the types of deals that leave me confused (I know, I know - amongst a number of other moves).

In what bizzaro universe was John Koronka a top-tier prospect?

The deadline is still 5 days away folks. You can wait 5 days before unleashing the hounds at least.

My own personal deadline was a couple years ago.

Speaking of deadlines, is it going to be like 3 pm Monday or something? I know they've changed it the past couple years.

Looks like it's 4pm Eastern. MLB.com has a countdown if you're bored.

Maybe not a top-tier prospect, but the #3 starting pitcher on a .500 team appears to be more productive than anything the Cubs have gotten from Bynum. I don't think anyone in the Rangers organization is complaining about this deal.

koronka is pretty terrible. he doesn't get a ton of ground balls and he doesn't strike many people out. this is a recipe for a mediocre pitcher who will be sitting on his current 5.02 ERA the rest of his career unless he develops another pitch that's 1,000 times more effective than what he has now.

maybe it's his near .800 OPSA that's so attractive? or maybe it's the fact that he's 6-6 on a pretty decent offensive team?

yeah, he's great, the cubs should have never traded him.

now THAT'S sarcasm.

I'm puzzled by people's interest in trading A-Ram? I realize he's had a bad year, but until he arrived we all lamented how we hadn't had an all-star caliber 3B since Santo. Now we want to run him out of town? If anything, he's proven that he can't be the man in our lineup, but I sure like the idea of A-Ram, D-Lee and hopefully C-Lee next season.

On Pierre...I'd like to see how he finishes out the season, because here again, we've waited a long time for a true lead-off hitter with speed, and at least he has the speed part figured out. Where do we turn if we trade or fail to resign him? Pie isn't ready and his speed isn't exactly doing much for him at Iowa.
