We typically talk about who we want to go get. Who do we want to move and what can we get for them?

Maddux: Is he the best pitcher available? With the Braves back in the hunt Smoltz probably won't be moved. Same with Schmidt and the Giants. Can we create a bidding war for Maddux. Can he net us LaRoche from LA? Villenueva from Milwaukee?

Walker: Detroit has been rumored to be interested. Toronto, Oakland, and LA have also been mentioned. Milwaukee could use him as a part-time 3B and backup at 1B and 2B if they don'e get Shea. Who do you want for Todd?

Williamson: Can we get Freel from the Reds? Do they need another reliever? Houston has been rumored to be interested. Just about every team in the playoff hunt could use another relief arm. What is the maximum vaule we could get for Williamson alone?

Pierre: His recent hot streak must have raised his value. The White Sox need CF help. Taveras isn't giving Houston much. Colorado has been rumored to be interested. Can we package Pierre and Williamson to get Fields from the Sox? Can we get one of the Rockies stud infield prospects?

Rusch: Will anyone take him? Please?

Neifi: See Rusch.

Nevin: Shouldn't bring much of a return back, but there should be teams interested.

Jones: Probably won't be traded. Cubs could take advantage while his value is high and move him for a nice return. The Yankees have expressed interest early in the season, but Matsui is about to come back.

Aramis: Probably won't be moved, but could bring back a big-time prospect. If you can get a LaRoche or Fields in another trade do you move Aramis? Maddux, Aramis, and Williamson for LaRoche and Billingsly? Aramis for Kendrick (if you get Fields or LaRoche)?

Dempster: Everyone needs bullpen help. Are the Cubs regretting his contract?

Prior: This would be selling low. He shouldn't be moved at the deasline.

unless the prospect is the next david wright, trading ramirez for a top level "prospect" is such a [expletive] idea

Thank you!!! You are correct.

Hendry has an opportunity to sort of redeem himself in the next week and a half. For all the crappy things he has done in recent memory, he can make me forget about a lot of them if he makes some really good trades.

I have to agree with the sentiment of the responses, though I'm sure we can come up with a more diplomatic word than "[expletive]".

In fact, using that word is very offensive to many of the members of this community and I would ask that the originator change it to something else.

Oh, if only the Royals were in contention... I sure could go for Alex Gordon.

I'm not advocating trading all these guys, just want to start some conversations about possibilities. I agree that it would take a lot to trade Aramis. I wouldn't rule it out though. If you can get a prospect you fully expect to be a superstar and respend his $11M on another very productive player you make the team better. I'm willing to trade anyone to make the team better.

how about pierre & williamson to the sox, garica & haeger to the pads & kottaras to the cubs.

aram, maddux & dempster to the dodgers for aybar, kemp & ethier.

Can the Dodgers afford to take on Maddux, Aramis and Dempster? They already have some hefty payrolls in Kent, Drew, Perez, Furcal, Gagne and the possible return of Nomar. Penny won't be cheap. Maddux is a free agent at the end of this year and the Dodgers will need to fill holes in their rotation. That's a lot of money spent. I think they're better off grooming their youth and mixing solid veterans like they have done this year. A couple more arms in the rotation and they are a good team.

Is Aybar someone the Cubs would target ahead of Guzman or LaRoche? LaRoche is a risk at this point. I don't think Kemp is going anywhere.

While it would be cool to see a lot of young stud prospects maturing with Prior and Zambrano, I can't imagine it actually happening. I've yet to see Hendry do this, so I'm a bit skeptical that he would.

Phil Rodgers was just on the Score and he said the Cubs want a pitcher and an outfielder for Maddux. The name that keeps coming up is Either. He also talked about Broxton of the Dodgers system. Kemp and Izsturis also were discussed.

Rodgers said he expects Todd Walker to be moved without getting much in return, but he did say there have been internal discussions and some in the front office want to offer him another 1 year deal. He thinks Pierre may be in the team's long-term plans.

Take it for what it's worth...

Williamson said he doesn't want to play for Ozzie. Trade Pierre to the White Sox for all I care. His arm is a noodle, and he won't help the offense much. What they need is bullpen help, and I don't want to give them any of our guys.

I would like to see Kottaras as a Cub. This would allow him to fully develop in Triple A in Iowa next season. That leaves Barrett around for next season until his contract is up. They would have to figure which direction to go since Barrett is a free agent after next season. But, it gives them a lot a leverage at the catcher position....either resign Barrett and dangle Kottaras out there next season or vice versa.

Maddux and Dempster/Howry might very well be able to get Kemp since they have so many outfielders at the moment. I think that Eithier will be sticking around LA for a while. Although I would take Eithier if given the choice.

The Dodgers are just loaded in prospects right now.

Loney is killing the ball in AAA at 1b. He has 23 K's in 288 AB's.

Delwyn Young is a top rated 2b, though he has falled off a bit so far this year.

Joel Guzman and Andy LaRoche will be battling for 3b. Kemp and Ethier in the OF, and Martin behind the plate.

How about it. For any baseball fans living in Vegas they really should go to Cashman field and catch the 51's and them.

Heck see them against Tucson and you've got MLB future stars galore.

Or even catch a game against Portland to see Kottaras play.

I'll be in Vegas for 12 days next month, but unfortunately, my work schedule won't allow it. Oh, and Cashman would need to be indoor in late August for me to go to a game.

Ugh it's been ridiculous lately.

I am gonna try to get out to the Iowa/51's series coming up.

Holy carp they're trying to get Ethier or Kemp for Maddux? Sweetness

Agreed. That would be an awesome start. Both are just turning 22 years old and putting up studly numbers.

The way Rodgers put it in that interview he made it sound like they want Either AND Broxton. That however would be crazy good, so I'll take either one of them or Kemp (who he also mentioned as a possibility).

i would think to get either kemp or either, aram would have to be part of the deal along with maddux.

Well, Coletti is an idiot, so we'll see.

Maybe he'll also allow us to break Furcal's wrist

So it is Rogers who who stated these "rumors." I take what Rogers says, with a grain of salt.

Nonetheless, I got a strange feeling that if the Dodgers are prepare to give up Broxton and Either or Kemp for Maddux (per Rogers rumor) that they may require the Cubs to take back Odalis Perez. Call it a gut feeling.

Plus their pitching with Broxton, Elbert, Billingsley.

I'd also rank Blake De Witt miles ahead of Delwyn Young.

This is the first time I have seen Ohman's name come up as being shopped.

The Cubs are looking at unloading so they can get ready for a winter of revamping. Among the names being shopped are right-handers Greg Maddux and Scott Williamson, lefties Glendon Rusch and Will Ohman, second baseman Todd Walker, center fielder Juan Pierre and first baseman Phil Nevin. Maddux has indicated in the past a desire to pitch close to his home in Las Vegas if he is dealt, but there is a lure in Milwaukee — brother Mike is the Brewers’ pitching coach.
