His last 3 starts have been terrible as his change-up is extremely inconsistent.

Teams have been able to knock around him as tries to get ahead in the count. He hasn't been able to get his curve over for strikes as well as the change.

He'll have to pitch backwards to keep teams from sitting on that 1st pitch, which he'll need his good curve and change.

It's not a surprise why the Cubs hit him hard when his two biggest holes are RH'ed hitting lineup and very aggressive line-ups.

He had a 3.22 ERA going into the game against the Cubs. He now sports a 4.43 after facing the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees.

Oh, and the Cubs are still dead last in the majors in OPS against lefties. They're also the only NL team with an OPS against lefties below .700.

The answer is cheat. Lights in the scoreboard, stealing signs, pine tar on the bat, it's the only way.

You forgot licking and doctoring baseballs with spit and snot and trying to kill the other teams' best hitter.

I think this could be the product of a lot of innings pitched accumulated at a young age finally catching up.

Lets look at this -

2001 - 22 years old - 221.1 IP

2002 - 23 - 239

2003 - 24 - 230.1

2004 - 25 - 245.1

2005 - 26 - 236.2 reg season and 23.1 in playoffs + WS

That's ludicrous. Another team's pitchers pitching a bunch of innings and actually suffering effects from it? Come on.

It looks like the same is happening with Garcia.

Heck the mofo can't even reach the mid-80's with his fast ball anymore.

Same thing as Buerhle. He's had 200 IP+ since 2001 and 249 total last year including the playoffs, although he is 2 1/2 years older. This is why its hard to repeat, your pitchers throw a lot of innings and have a shorter recovery time in the offseason. Also, Garcia threw in the WBC, if that means much of anything.

According to Don Cooper, innings pitched has nothing to do with it. The strike zone has changed this year (he used Greg Maddux as an example) and his pitchers just aren't adjusting. Poor location is the reason they are struggling.

So, he's ignoring Garcia's drop in velocity? Also, since when has Mark Buerhle laid balls down the middle of the plate, new strike zone or not? Fatigue/strain could be a very real answer to a loss of velocity and lesser control.

Well, you can't just blame it on other teams stealing signs. Must be QuesTec.

Well then why doesn't he take a bat and smash the camera's??

Other teams are stealing signs and using scoreboards. It's plain and simple.

Buerhle is getting smoked again.

The Rangers use a scoreboard to steal signs. Oh wait, the game is at the Cell. Guess Buerhle was wrong. He's a village idiot. I think I know the excuse. It's going to be something to do w/ Wendelstet being the home-plate umpire.

the new, streamilined answer to the question posed in the title of the thread...be the opposition when he starts the ballgame.

that rotation has gone from "five number 1's" to "a number 2 and four number 5's" rather quickly.

And that number 2 is Jon Garland.

Ouch.

Indeed.

Although the Sox were angered at home plate umpire Eric Cooper's strike zone, Buehrle put most of the blame on the Qestec pitch-tracking machine that Major League Baseball employs to help grade umpires.

"When [Qestec] gets in every stadium, it's going to be a hitters' league," said Buehrle, echoing the sentiments of pitchers such as Boston's Curt Schilling, who once smashed a camera and was fined.

"I need the corners. [Cooper] was calling the high strike, but I don't live upstairs. I live on the corners. I'm not saying they were strikes. I think some of them were."

I'm pretty sure him and Hawk get together before games and think of excuses to make when things go wrong. Hawk blamed Buerhle's 7th inning implosion on the home plate umpire failing to call strikes on Tim Salmon when the pitches called balls were clearly inside. It is tough to even stomach watching a Sox game with that excuse making crybaby in the booth.

That was predictable.

Dear Buehrle,

YOU HAVE A LOSING RECORD ON A TOP 5 TEAM IN BASEBALL. YOUR ERA IN JULY WAS 11.48 AND YOUR ERA IN AUGUST IS 5.68. YOU HAVE SUCKED FOR A MONTH AND A HALF. STOP BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE.

Signed,

This village idiot just gives me more reasons to want to see him get hit in the head with a 100 mph fastball.

Mark,

There is a concept called learning to adapt. I suggest you grasp it, or you'll be out the league before you can even pitch for your Cardinals.
