Hey Everybody;

it's been a few months since I last posted or even visited the site for that matter. The reason I haven't is that in April, I was diagnosed with Colon cancer. it's been rough at times but I know God will heal me and I'll be all right. Please keep me in your prayers. Anyway, I wanted to share something that Dusty did, that I'll remember the rest of my life. I can't tell you how but I got word to Dusty when the Cubs were in Houston, that I was suffering from colon cancer. Anyway to my suprise, he called me and told me to hang in there. He reminded me that he himself is a survivor of prostrate cancer. What a class act! To think he took the time to call me, it blows me away! Even before this, I was a big fan of Baker. I don't blame Dusty for the Cubs' season, instead I blame Hendry and the players. Dusty Baker should do himself and his family a favor and resign as Cubs manager-- the North Siders don't deserve him!

I've never doubted Baker was a "good" guy. By all indications, he is.

I've had an opportunity to meet Jim Hendry. He is a very personable and down-to-earth guy. I also won't deny that meeting Hendry and liking him may have been why I was slow to criticize him.

That being said, whether Dusty is a "great" guy or not, I don't want him as manager just as I wish we now had a different GM even though I think Hendry is a good guy too. Both are very likeable. That doesn't make them competent at building a winning team.

BTW, I hope you experience a recovery from your cancer. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and I know the struggles up close and personal.

Hope you fight through this and get better

That said, Dusty is a nice guy. But he is not right for the Cubs. He just isn't. I'm sorry, but you have to look past him being a nice guy and look at the facts square in the face.

I'm sure Dusty is a good person. This news makes it a little harder for me to dislike him as a manager though.

Pull through, and you always have buddies here at NSBB.

We thought my dad had skin cancer for awhile and all tests came out negative. And I myself have gastritis so I get tests every once in awhile. So I know how that can hit you.

I'll say a little prayer for you tonite. Did you catch it early?

I hope you overcome your ailment. All the best to you.

Secondly, I really think dusty is a good guy. I could see him being a really great guy, a great manager...well thats a different story.

I am a twelve year survivor of that disease myself, and a 30+ year Cubs fan also.

You'll beat that disease just as I did. :D

You won't ever get over being a Cubs fan though.

My grandmother survived colon cancer, my aunt survived Hodgkin's disease, and my other grandmother survived breast cancer. I know as well as anyone the great healing power of faith. Good luck and keep fighting, pal.

Again thanks for your prayers. Thanks be to God, I did catch the cancer early so I know I'm going to get through this. Hey just a warning to you guys, I'm 48 yrs. old and I considered myself in to be in pretty good health, when I found out I had cancer. And I heard just the other day of someone being diagnosed with cancer--this guy was also 48 yrs old. It used to be when you were 50, you should get checked out...so all I'm saying guys, is that you might want to check with your doctor about scheduling a colonoscopy. With regards to Dusty, I know guys I agree with you that it is important to seperate a person's character (i.e. being a great guy) from his ability to perform/communicate. Did I also tell you that Baker signed two baseballs for me last September when the Cubs were in town? Anyway, I guess it's because he's such a great human being, I just wish things were different and the Cubs were playing up to their potential-- but they're not. I must say though, I don't understand how Hendry can fire Dusty when he himself hasn't been doing his job. And now the Astros have acquired Huff...where were you Jimmy??

I think most of us think Hendry should be fired as well. Unfortunately, he's already been given an extension beyond this year. Baker hasn't. So, although firing just Baker is only doing half the job, it's better than nothing.

this is great to hear as i always thought Dusty was a good guy as evidenced by how many people refer to him as a player manager.

All the best, hope you beat your illness.
