Well, its the allstar break. So Baker might not have a job when we start playing baseball again, right? Please?

Well, come on in, have a doughnut and pick up a magazine. Any Updates from media sources would be greatly appreciated.

I think that Dusty bought himself some time with the slight turnaround before the break. IMO he doesn't deserve it, but this is a "what have you done for me lately" business, and the way the team has been playing recently will be at the front of Hendry's mind. Combine that with the fact that we may not be able to find a decent candidate right now, and unfortunately I think he'll be here through the end of the year.

I don't care about a "decent candidate" at the moment. This team isn't going anywhere. The season is over. I just want a warm body in there (not belonging to Dusty Baker or any member of the coaching staff) to take us the rest of the way, and then we can evaluate the situation in the off-season.

Sorry guys, I'll sit and visit at the end of the season. From what the players are saying and this little mini-run in Milwaukee, Baker is safe provided he dosent try to steal any of Hendrys doughnuts.

I believe Hendry will view this as the best course of action and will make him appear as a stable boss so he can have that reputation when he tries to bring in the next big hire.

Just my two cents, feel free to ignore. My wife does all the time.

The three game winning streak has postponed any Dusty Baker firing party for the immediate future, unfortunately.

I agree. And it's a damn shame.

Well, What else do we have to wait on? Another win? HAHAHAha...ha...h..ergh.

I hate this team so much.

I think the smart money would be on Baker lasting until the end of the season, but with that said I would hope that Hendry is smart enough to not let a single 3 game winning streak skew his evaluation.

One of the reasons I am not despairing over Dusty right now is the same reason why my excitement will be muted when he is eventually fired. Despite my opinion of Baker, the upper management that hired him will still be in place. The fact that Dusty has hung around for so long is as bad indicator there is already, but what makes anyone think MacHendry will go out and hire the right kind of manager?

I can't believe I semi-defended Hendry when he was given his extension. He has shown no clue that he has any idea of how to build a winning ballclub. Forget the ridiculously awful signings (Neifi, Rusch) or the fetish for injured pitchers (who cares about torn labrums? Paul Mainieri is a friend of mine and we're selecting Grant Roberts) or even that he apparently values "clutchiness" over plate discipline, the most disturbing thing to me has been the rapidly declining fortunes of the farm system. The other stuff is somewhat tolerable as long as talent is coming through the pipleline, but even that well has started to dry up. When you have an awful team and an awful farm system, what else is there? Tim Wilken is the only shred of hope that the Cubs might be able to turn this around, but I'm not crossing my fingers.

No, I can't stand Dusty and will be glad when he is gone. He truly is a terrible manager who deserves every criticism that comes his way. It will make me sick that he will be turned into a martyr by some corners of the media when he is canned and be seen as the victim of the "curse". I'm sure he'll play the "woe is me" card and complain of bad luck and not having his horses and pitching injuries, despite being complicit in some of those injuires (overuse of Wood, Prior, etc.). But I won't be popping corks when he is fired either. The waiting game can be tough and frustrating, but when you accept that the new boss probably won't be that much better than the old boss, it's easier to take.

Meanwhile, I'll just sit back and enjoy our quixotic quest to try and salvage what remains of the season and let the chips fall where they may.

You mean cheap money. Hendry doesn't let anyone go if it costs the Cubs money. See Rusch for a good example of this.

Ok, I'm going to be optimistic and think Dusty will still go relatively soon. Everyone said last week, that Hendry "evaluating things" meant Dusty was basically done, and it was more a matter of when, than if he would be gone.

Granted, Hendry did say "lets see how we finish out the week" which could mean anything... but if Hendry HAS decided Dusty is gone... When will we know it?

Will the press conference be tomorrow? Thursday? Will he wait until they lose a series again?

If he's decided Dusty's going to go, he should let him go as soon as possible, and get whatever we can out of whoever replaces him... but then, Hendry's not done the right thing once yet... so who knows...

Well Mr. Hendry is still evaluating on what to get a Beta or VHS VCR, so it may take awhile.

Well I've been listening to the score all day, and they are much more optimistic of Dusty's firing then you guys. In fact, the update guy has been saying all day that sources tell the Score the Hendry is currently putting together a list of replacements for Dusty.

That's not completely true, he let Sosa go and it cost the Cubs a ton of money. Also no announcement, if there is going to be one, will be made until Wed at the earliest. Baseball does not want anything to take away from what has become a joke of an All-Star game. Fire Dusty and oust Bud Selig

He still traded Sosa and didn't outright release him and butchered that in the process.

According to this writer Zambrano may think Dusty's firing is unavoidable.

On CLTV's Sports Page (Sunday), Norm Van Lier said quite a few times that Dusty is a friend of his, but "business is business" and predicted he will be fired.
