This one is difficult. Both quality. I'm going to have to think about it a while.

Ok, done. Soundgarden it is.

Ramones = hideously overrated. They may have influenced a lot of great bands but they themselves weren't even close to great.

Not a big fan of punk?

I am a big fan of punk, but not the Ramones. They bore me. I give them credit for giving punk a kickstart by repopularizing the 2:30 rock song and showing that you don't need to play great to start a band, but other than that I don't think they offered much. The bands that actually imitated their songwriting are mostly pop-punk, and I HATE pop-punk.

The entire punk genre is all about attitude over playing ability.

The Ramones are probably one of the more influential bands of all time. Their influence reaches far beyond punk---well into the rock genre, heavy metal, even some death metal and thrash.

"Pretty Noose", "Burden in my Hand" and "Blow up the outside world" are some of my favorite songs of all time. I went with Soundgarden.

Interesting take. Those are good songs but I think the real gems are on Badmotorfinger and Louder Than Love.

I'm a huge fan of the earlier stuff as well....I've played drums in rock groups since I was 12...along with playing baseball it pretty much consumed my life. I loved playing alot of Soundgarden's early stuff. Matt Cameron is one of the rock drummers, along with John Bonham and Mitch Mitchell who practicaly raised me.

But I like the stuff from Down on the Upside alot just because of the sound techniques they used... (the studio-band nerd coming out in me, i suppose)

Pop-punk is my favorite kind of music...

If the Ramones are a 5 seed, where are the Dead Kennedys?
They were snubbed, hardcore. Yet the Sex Pistols made it...

Soundgarden is good, but come on. The Ramones. If it weren't for them Soundgarden wouldn't have ever been around.

the ramones i guess, but only because they were part of the late 70's punk scene that influenced all of the punk I listen to today.

and pop-punk is alright, but the mainstream stuff (green day, my chemical romance, etc) is all awful.

however, i will be the first to admit that I'm a big Adicts fan and i like my fair share of the poppy side of punk.
