I think you'd have to include him in a trade for Tejada.

I'm ok with that. Then keep Walker.

If I tried to agree with you more I'd end up pulling a Prior.

Works for me, though isn't Baltimore's closer this year pretty decent?

So...why exactly would Baltimore do that?

They still feel guilty about the Patterson trade? :?

About 2 minutes ago Ronny strikes out once again with the bases loaded and no one out.. I ve seen that to many times from him, he was hot for a month or two then completely hasnt done anything since.. And also swings at every pitch he sees... I would do anything to have Tejada at SS... Imagine that and signing C. Lee to left... That lmiddle lineup would be freakin sick.... C Lee, DLee,Tejada,Rameriz and Jones...

First: I'm not ready to trade Cedeno. Alot of guys complain about trading guys while at their lowest, this would be it. And I know that Tejada was said to be available last offseason, but who is to say, he will be again?

Second: At this point, I am still willing to let Cedeno get comfortable playing at the ML level, Let him continue to get to know ML pitchers, and he will turn out to be a decent hitter. Besides, the Cubs have to have a couple of cost-efficent players on this bloated salary cap team. While adding Tejada, would be nice, I highyl doubt he'll be available.

They probably need more of a big time player in there so ... Prior, Cedeno, Dempster for Tejada and Markakis.

What Cedeno needs is a coach who preaches patience. He came up with the bases loaded after a walk and swung at the first pitch. That is just not how it should be done.

Was it a good pitch? It's pretty sound philosophy to look to hammer the first pitch with the bases loaded, even with the previous hitter walking.

On the general topic of Cedeno, the most important number to consider with him is 23. You put him at the bottom of the lineup for defense and cost effectiveness. If he doesn't show any signs of life offensively before he starts costing real money, then you look for a replacement(or sooner if you're able to fill other holes first). Otherwise, just leave him there and let him get AB's in the 8 slot.

I remember Sosa was an auto out with bases loaded for several years too. The one night in SD in 98-99? he accidently ran into a pitch and hit it a long, long way. After that night he hit .300 something with the bases loaded. The moral of the story is to not get your panties in a wad, let him blossom, (I believe he will), and enjoy the production he does give us while playing an improving SS.

Markakis is the best position prospect the Orioles have had in years. You're trashing Cedeno and he'd clearly be a step down from Tejada. Prior hasn't put together a non-freak injury season since 2003. Dempster is good, but not nearly good enough to tie together that package.

Again, why the heck would the Orioles do that trade?

It was Arizona, I think. and if memory serves, he hit is second career GS a day later.

As for Cedeno, I think it's funny how often Baker gets blasted for having a quick hook on rookies, but many on this board want to give up on a 23 year old SS after half a season.

Bott of you are correct....Sammy's first two grand slams came against the D'Backs on July 27-28 of 1998, and Sammy's grandslam against the Padres was on September 16, 1998. Nonetheless, Sammy became a full fear hitter, when he finally learn how to hit with bases loaded.

I'm not ready to give up on Ronny either and think he'll come around.

The problem is that he needs help to come around and there is none to be found at the majpr league level.

Posted
i wouldnt do it, SS has always been a position where fielding is much more important than hitting,

So why would you be opposed to the trade? Ronny has been a below average defensive shortstop this year.

He's too young and inexpensive to give up on. See how he does in the second half of this season and assign him to winter ball. He can only get better.

It's not a matter of giving up on him...the only suggestion to deal him off the team in this thread that people mulled over was somehow packaging him for freakin' Tejada! Giving up on him would be settling for someone like Neifi Perez instead.

We need to remember that Cedeno is essentially a rookie. He's going to have his ups and downs, just like Murton. The question for me is whether we can afford to have both Cedeno and Murton in the lineup at the same time. I like both guys, but right now they aren't giving us enough production to keep both. I'd like to see Murton be a top sub next year.
