Aramis has shown he's the type of hitter who would thrive in a lineup like the Yankees have, even with the injuries. You surround him with other big bats, and I mean BIG bats, and he slams the ball until it cries. Jacque is having a great year and given his history, I think he'd use the shorter porch in NYC to his advantage. Cap them off with a reliever or two and I think this could and should be done, if there's any truth to it.
Jacque's power is to left, so he likely wouldn't benefit from the short porch in right.

ARod just hit a 3 run homer for his 7th RBI tonight. That's half of what ARam drove in for the month of May.

These two are far enough apart to where ARam likely wouldn't be the best player we'd be offering. Prior or Z might be involved. Jones, too, to help with the injury situation - but he's an average player over his career and wouldn't be a huge chip.

There is absolutely no way Z is getting traded. Not a chance. Prior maybe, but not Z. It says in the blog that ARam would be the centerpiece and Jones could be involved. No mention of Prior though.

Virtually every left handed hitter with any power whatsoever would benefit from having a short porch in right field.

Just goes to show you how inept everyone around Aramis was in May.

If Aram is included in the trade I think Arod would stay at 3B because the Cubs wouldn't have one otherwise, not because Cedeno is keeping him there.

It is possible. The Yankees have an aging lineup and will likely lose Posada, Sheffield, Mussina, Rivera, Williams, and many other cornerstones of their team very soon. They are probably looking to go younger and Ramirez is three years younger than Rodriguez, and he makes significantly less.

At the same time, Hendry is (probably) desperate to make a big splash and save his job.

Anyone else pick up the Andruw Jones for Brian Anderson swap? WTF? I would imagine it would take Anderson/Broadway/McCarthy to get it done.

He just got a contract extention a couple of months ago. He is not going anywhere, in my opinion. I can't see the Cubs willing to just eat that contract and bring in someone new.

if it happens i hope ronnie cedeno doesn't make arod stay at 3rd base

Right now I don't think that ARod could play SS very well. He's only listed at 225lbs, but ever since his move to 3B he's really put on some weight.

does ARod have any sort of NTC, I know NY hates him but really who would except a trade to this mess?

He does have a NTC. But, if the fans/media and even the Yankee organization itself is getting to Arod he might welcome a chance to get out.

Even though the Cubs are a disaster, he might not mind moving to a another major market. Plus, he might see the Cubs as a team that has some good pieces in DLee/Zambrano/Barrett.

I think I would question his willingness to move to the National League versus wanting to be a Cub.

So, for a second, assume the Cubs get A-Rod. Having him and DLee next to each other in the lineup is similar to Manny and Ortiz. But how would you fill out the rest of the lineup? Assume Jones and Aramis are traded for him. Go.

Losing Jones would hurt a little bit because we don't have anyone who could take his spot, but we could make it work.

CF Pierre (sucks but he's still probably the best one)

The blog states that ARod would probably be moved to SS, Ronny to 2B, and we'd stick a stopgap at 3B until the offseason. Walker would probably be traded (ugh).

Who is available at 3B following this season?

Is there anyone out there for the OF? Carlos Lee doesn't exactly do it for me (especially not at what he's going to get).

I think Mark Teahen could be available (with Butler/Gordon waiting in the wings) and he FITS into what the Cubs are trying to accomplice...swing, swing, and more swing.

Other guys could include....Ty Wigginton, Brendan Harris ( 8) , those type third baseman could be had, for stopgap purposes.

Call me crazy, but I dont do it. The disparity in numbers over the past few years isn't very big.

Let me preface my argument by saying that I believe Aramis will be around .310/.365/.575 during his prime (all lower numbers than his age 26 season).

ARods career numbers are .306/.386./.575 and he is two years older. That's .020 points in OPS. Yes he is a better baserunner. Yes he is a better fielder. Is the difference between the two enough to warrant paying AROD money that could be spent elsewhere?

What if we kept ARAM and shipped Rich Hill, Jacque Jones and Felix Pie to Philly for Abreu? Then got Carlos Lee in the offseason? ARod's money pays for that.

I doubt his defense there is very good, but hasn't Nevin played third base? He could be the stopgap.

Hendry's really going to pay ARod $27million dollars? I'm having a hard time believing that one.

Also having a hard time believing the Yanks would pay ARod to play somewhere else.

This seems like a baseless rumor. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.

He wouldn't-the Rangers are paying $10 million per year. The Yankees only pay $17 million per.

He probably still won't do it, though.

I would also assume cash would be involved in any ARod deal.

I agree - this is difficult to believe.

Plus I'm not even that crazy about the deal to begin with.

Remember the McGriff and Nomar acquisitions ... both were trading deadline deals but they both occurred with the Cubs in the driver's seat for a playoff spot, and both players were head and shoulders above the guys they replaced, plugging some serious holes on paper. The Cubs soon tanked after both guys arrived.

The Cubs need a stud OF and a stud SP this winter(*). My fear is that Hendry would think "my work is done" if he landed ARod, plus there's that annoying budget thingy.

Now of course I'd love to see a package NOT including ARam sent for ARod, assuming playing SS is sort of like riding a bike (an ARam - ARod - TWalk - DLee would one bigtime infield), but that's certainly not going to happen.

(*) oh yeah, and a new manager and coaching staff lol
