I thought the Andrew Jones to the White Sox was an interesting rumor on there too...that would really make the Sox a scary team.

Going on record here as being 100%, no doubt about it, are you kidding me, how can you not like this, would salvage something out of this rotten season etc...--yes for A-Rod, and twice on Sunday. Aramis, Pierre or Jock, any reliever the Yanks want, and if they'll give us a couple of their prospects, we'll give them a couple of ours.

Aramis, Jock, Williamson and Rich Hill for A-Rod and Eric Duncan, how about that?

Then, if I'm Jim Hendry, I get on the phone and start up that Prior for Tejada business again. This time, I pull the trigger. If Prior eventually becomes a stud, bully for him. I want the bat.

I keep Todd Walker. Cedeno I move in a later trade.

A-Rod, Tejada, Walker, Lee and Barrett for your infield. Got more offense than that out there? Anybody?

Sign one FA outfielder this winter, let Murton, Pie, Pagan and other youngsters fight over one OF spot. Sign one FA starting pitcher. You're basically there at that point.

So, A-Rod gets the ball rolling. Do it.

Does it say anywhere on the blog site what the source is? If it doesn't then I see no point in talking about this. The Yankees won't do it unless they get an offer they can't refuse, and I know that Cashman would want us to include Z in the deal, which is out of the question.

I'd bank the O's demand at least Prior and Cedeno for Tejada, given Mark's health as of late.

So, for a second, assume the Cubs get A-Rod. Having him and DLee next to each other in the lineup is similar to Manny and Ortiz. But how would you fill out the rest of the lineup? Assume Jones and Aramis are traded for him. Go.

LF Murton

2nd Walker

1st Lee

3rd Arod

C Barrett

RF Pagan

SS Cedeno

CF Pierre

That's what I'd do. Baker would switch Murton and Pierre. He'd also flip Barrett and Pagan for R-L-R purposes.

If Pierre can keep up his offensive bump, I have no problem with him staying at leadoff until the end of the season or whenever he's dealt. Edited by Sammy Sofa

Count me skeptical.

I'd put ARod at SS and trade Cedeno plus other for a third baseman. Or, I'd put ARod at 3B and trade Prior, Cedeno and others to Baltimore for Tejada. I think what makes ARod so valuable is that he puts up incredible numbers for a SS and very good numbers for a 3rd baseman.

In a year that so many "experts" consider a down year for A-Rod, he's still got the 4th highest OPS of any 3B in baseball this year.

Me too, though I'm probably closer to the fence. The guy has some great career numbers, and despite them sliding in recent years, the steep drop off this year almost has to be a fluke...maybe.

Aramis, Jacque, and Williamson for ARod and Tabata.

I'd pull the trigger on that in a second.

I must say I like this scenerio, no matter how likely. I would LOVE that. Wow, nice high powered offense there. But I'll take ANY "change" right now. Move a couple people, bring a couple of other big people in. I just want to see some changes. And I wouldn't mind having A-rod here. Problem is you'd only have him 1 year and you'd be giving up ARAM for a 1 year superstar? (I mean how likely is it he'll want to stay with the cubs for anywhere less than $20 mil.)

Hopefully Bruce will give us his take on rumor.

Not happening.

Boy, you know the hero worship here has gone to Bruce's head when he refuses to even give his opinion on a rumor...

Ohhhh.

On a more serious note, Bruce, since you're lurking here, have you ever crossed paths with Peter Gammons? There have been a lot of accolades and great stories related recently due to his unexpected surgery, and I was wondering if you had any personal notes to pass on.

(Sorry for the potential thread hijacking).

Yes, I've met Peter on a number of occasions, and he's been quite gracious. He's got great contacts within the game. One of the marks of a Hall of Famer is how the person treats others. I've not known Peter to "big-time" anybody. My other favorite Hall of Fame writer is Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News. He's a great reporter and an even better guy.

Gammons' HoF speech in 2005 was simply beautiful. I made the trek to upstate NY to see Ryno, but was pleasantly surprised by Gammons.

Okay, back to getting A Rod. . . . . bwahahahahahahahaha.

uhhh. . . . YEAH IT IS!! :P

Sorry, I had to get my childish rant for the day.

How can you people even take a rumor like that seriously?

Why not? It's not like it was an impossible idea...and with a year like this, what's there left to care about?
