PJ is a better Malik Allen. Ben is a MUCH better Tyson. Plus, we get our cap space right back next season if the Brown trade comes to fruition.

If Pax doesn't win NBA Exec of the Year in 07...

Good point. Anyone know who the free agents are next season? I know that the young guys (Hinrich, Noc, Deng, Gordon) will need extensions soon, but the Bulls should still have enough with Wallace taking a little more than what Chandler was and with Brown off the books.

I look at it from the standpoint of trading Tyson Chandler for Ben Wallace, JR Smith, and PJ Brown. Ben's contract is actually BETTER than Tyson's, we get PJ Brown for a season and then get his capspace to lock up our guys, and JR Smith, if he ever turns it around, could be a nice asset to have.

Not quite, the Bulls get $8M in cap space next offseason if they trade Tyson for Brown, about half the cap space they started with this offseason.

8 mill can get you quite a nice player...plus we'll have Odem. :wtg:

If all works out then, in terms of cap space, it's essentially $8m for Ben Wallace.

I'll take that anyday. Only a fool wouldn't.

He's 31---not all that old for a 4 year deal. 31 is not the "old man" that some people think it is. Shaq's 34, and still was quite effective in the finals. Plus the sorely lacking championship experience on the Bulls----Wallace instantly makes that a thing of the past.

Ben should be quite productive for at least the next 2 seasons. I'm sure there will be a trailoff throughout----but there's just no question he's a massive, massive upgrade from Chandler.

$8M will help them pay Hinrich and Deng and Gordon and Noch.

FROM ESPN INSIDER'S RUMOR MILL OMGOMGOMGOMG

Chandler To Hornets Or Wolves?

Jul 4 - ESPN.com's Chad Ford and Marc Stein reported last night that Chicago is in trade talks with New Orleans/Oklahoma City about a deal that would send Tyson Chandler to the Hornets for P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith.

Today's edition of the Daily Southtown reports the Bulls, after agreeing to a contract with Ben Wallace, are going to make another run at Kevin Garnett.

According to the newspaper, the Bulls believe they can revive the talks if they sweeten their offer to Chandler, Luol Deng and first-round draft pick Tyrus Thomas for Garnett.

I seriously wish the KG rumors would just die. Pax recently said he's never even talked to Minnesota once about KG this offseason, so for talks to 'revive' they needed to live at one point. I'd love KG on the Bulls, but I don't like the idea of giving up a huge Bulls strength, depth.

The PJ brown trade offers the Bulls financial flexibility where they'd be able to reup Kirk, Luol, Nocci, and maybe even Gordon. The Bulls are putting together a solid core that can compete for division/conference titles for the next 3-5 years, maybe even more based on how Tyrus develops.

Chad Ford won't give up.

So...will my Mavs be seeing your guys' Bulls in the Finals next year?

If by Mavs you mean Suns, then yes, they will.

The Suns are going to win it all next year barring injury.

Nash, Marion, Stoudamire, Diaw, Barbosa, Bell, and D'Antoni's system.

Detroit no longer had the best starting 5.

As for the KG trade, I say do whatever you can to switch Thomas our with Ben Gordon.

Tyrus Thomas is the perfect combination of athleticism and size to (attempt to) guard LeBron James for the next 15 years. The reality of the situation is that we are now for all intents and purposes the Pacers of the 90's. We have a good team, but the best player of all time is in our division Not much we can do about that except try to put a team on the floor that can contain him.

LeBron is going to get his points, but the Cavaliers don't have a Pippen and quite the supporting cast the Bulls did. A solid team like the Bulls canplay with the Cavaliers in a 7 game series.

I'd wait to see what Hughes does in a full season. He broke a bone, then his brother died during the playoffs.

What happens if the Bulls get a shot at Oden next year. They will have Wallace and won't be able to move his big contract.

Then Oden comes in off the bench for a few years. Wallace is gonna be 32 I think, if Bulls have a pick where Oden is there, he has to be taken.

Or you play the best center prospect since Tim Duncan (or Shaq if you don't consider Duncan as a "center") with Wallace on the floor at the same time.

We'll see how ready Oden will be to start as a 19-year old big man with one year of college experience. If Oden is ready to play right away, play him with Wallace.

This is an excellent point. Thomas may not have the strength to stop LBJ from attacking the rim, but his great athleticism in quickness could make him a superstar stopper in the fourth quarter.

The Bulls signing Wallace is the equivalent of the Cubs signing... who?

I ask cause I'm an admitted fairweather Bulls fan who hasn't really cared much about the NBA since MJ retired.

Interesting question...hard to make a comparison to anyone playing today. Comparing to a historical baseball figure, I'd say more like Jackie Robinson...one of the best all-time defensively, and able to contribute a little bit on offense. His defense is good enough to have an impact on any game, without a doubt.

Oden and Ben are not the same player. You can play Ben at PF and Oden at C if it comes to that. But any talk of the Bulls getting Oden causes me to black out from temporary insanity over how good we'd be so I don't want to think about it now.

Cripes, even a Top 5 pick will probably net a great player. Next year's draft crop looks insane at the top.
