For those that just can not let it rest.

IF the Cubs win each series taking 3 out of 4 from the Brew Crew twice and St. Louis once the Cubs would see 0.500 Aug 2nd.

The series they would have to win are agansit this years best teams that include the White Sox, the Mets and the Cards. Not to mention beginning with a good Cleveland team, the Twins and the Brew Crew for a ton of up-coming games.

53-53 would be the count on Aug. 2nd. with 59 games left.

If I recall correctly, you said something before about not giving up unless the Cubs were down 10 games under .500 at the ASB...correct? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Anyway, if the Cubs hit 20 games under....will you still think they can get back to .500? Cuz they aren't all that far away from that.

I'm just supplying the potential map back from the horror.

I don't give up until mathamatically out of it. Baseball is to much of a enigma to give up before that. Can the Cubs go any lower? Sure, but why hope for that? Nothing will change. I just hope they get some of the younger players playing, like Murton. Mabry doesn't need to be out there nor does Bynum. Keep pitching the young guys like Marshall and Marmol, Keep sending up Prior and Wood until they either break or find themselves. Get DLee back and see how this team might be in 2007. I see this as a great oppp for the Cubs to trim the team to the usable parts.

Posted

this team won't trim until Dusty is gone.

His whole deal is being a "player's manager" that means all of "his boys" get plenty of playing time... even if the team is totally out of it and needs to see some young guys...

Do you think a young guy would start over neifi at ANY point this year?

young guys are for subbing in the late innings in blowouts... at least, that's how the management thinks...

I predict the Cubs will reach .500 on opening day of '07, and unless things are addressed between now and then it could be a very short stay.

if anybody could put that to a test - it is this team that will probably still be here next '07

This team will not reach .500. I just hope that Hendry grows a pair and begins to trade the impending FA's so that we can begin to retool for next season.

Pierre- needs to go.

Maddux- get what you can for him.

Walker- I like ya...but bye-bye.

Nevin- So long, buddy.

Blanco- Who needs a back-up catcher?

Williamson- Nice Knowing ya!

Wood- Please waive the NTC.

This team, healthy isn't bad. Almost every player is having a crap season if their not hurt. I don't believe that any player on the roster is out playing his numbers. Or even playing up to there numbers. So you get Marshall and Marmol experiance, get Murton on a hot streak and get him active everyday. Make him slam the door on Dusty and the platooning garbage. Keep Cedano going. Make some positive moves, not desperate moves.

I just hope Hendry doesn't cave in to the clammering Cubs fan base and over pay for a garbage player. JP was enough.

how is saying "let's win every series until august" supplying a map back to .500? you're just saying what they have to do, not how they're going to do it.

I could not possibly disagree more.

Barrett - best numbers of his career

Jones - having his best year since 2002

Cedeno - performing as well as expected

Murton - performing about as well as expected

Maddux - performing as well as expected

Zambrano - best numbers of his career

Eyre - having a career year

Howry - performing as well as expected

Marshall - much better than expected

ARam and Pierre have been huge disappointments and Walker has been slightly worse than expected. But that's pretty much it.

This team isn't underachieving. This team is just bad. If you thought any of these players (other than Pierre or Ramirez) would be significantly better, the problem is that your expectations are unreasonable.

I think Jones is outplaying his numbers, Cedeno is giving more than anyone probably expected, and Barrett is also outperforming - that's more than a third of your regular starters. Walker is not underperforming so really you have Pierre and Aramis as the only two who are not living up to their potential and you have an injury to Lee. Murton hasn't been great but his OBP is still decent so he is not a total disappoint. The problem is Hendry put together a team that relied on pitchers that haven't been able to pitch on a consistent basis for the last couple of years and a horrible bench, meaning that once the injuries started there was no backup plan in place.

Back up plan was Glendon Rusch what's the problem? I keed, I keed!!

Okay my point about all players stinking was not the strongest arguement. So if everybody is pulling their weight and JP and Am Ram start hitting then the Cubs starting winning then right?

Quality starts from the Starters and timely hitting about somes it up right?

Santo was right "this game isn't that hard!!"

Nope. This team is bad. If Pierre and ARam start tearing the cover off the ball, this still isn't a good team.

I just said they were playing to expectations I didn't say they were good.lol

Hendry put together a team that relied on power from two guys, one went down with an injury and the other has not gotten off to a good start. No power and low OBP is not a good mix. While some of the parts have done ok, as a whole this team is just not very good. The starting pitching has been atrocious outside of Maddux' first 5 starts and Zambrano since then. Marshall has been so so and for the most part I like what I see from him but he should be the #5 starter not the #2.

You got the right Idea. The Cubs as a whole are just not that good with little specks of light in a dark blob of 2006 26-41 abyss. Oh well. The Cubs can reap the rewards of a crap season with some good trades and signings.

Hendry will have to earn his money now that 2006 blew off his beak (ala Daffy Duck).

I guess it depends on what shade of lipstick satan is wearing. I have read enough to know that satan is passionate and not the horned, red skinned demon looking thing with a forked tounge and tail.

One good looking win last night. It's step number one to the drive toward .500.

Last night was the same old song and dance. Nothing is being changed. Great, everybody made contact last night. A team of NSBBers could hit well against ineffective pitching occasionally. Heck, Cubs opponents have been doing it all year, and last night was no exception.

The team also only drew 2 walks last night. Until they start showing some patience at the plate and taking some freebies, this team won't amount to squat.

Their approach is horrible. With their poor SLG and AVG, they should be doing anything and everything they can to improve their OBP. They should be doing everything they can to knock pitchers out of games earlier with high pitch counts.

Baseball is a game of adjustments. They just haven't adjusted in the right way yet.

Damn, where's Jose Macias when you need REAL power! I hope they give up the ship and trade most of these re-used parts...alas, it won't happen, it would force Jimbo to concede that his phiosophy is a complet and total train wreck.

This team is garbage, it's time we all came to grips. Yeah, if we win all of our series from now until August whatever we'll be back at .500. When was the last time any team won every series they were in for a month a half? If it's been done before I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the team that pulled it off was talented. This team is not that talented, and the majority of the talent is on the DL (or just coming off of it).

I mean, why just settle for winning every series? Let's sweep every series, that way we can be back at .500 in July! This team sucks ass, let it go.

Yet? They have never adjusted the right way, period.

They don't even realize the problem and it's been smacking them in the face everyday the entire time Hendry and Baker have been in charge.
