That brings his minor league numbers to 18IP 15H 6ER 21/3 K/BB and he's felt great after each start. I know that minor league success doesn't necessarily equal major league success but this is a very good start.

I recall several threads recently ready to give up on Prior and try to trade him for whatever we could get for him. Maybe hater is the wrong term but I'd say quite a few people had all but given up on him ever being productive again.

I would agree with that if people were wanting equal value for Prior's talent, even with the injury problems. I think that is a little bit different when people are advocating cutting our loses and just salvaging a minor leaguer for him. Like a said, maybe "hate" was the wrong word, but alot of people had all but given up on him and turned their back to him.

I don't think the velocity will be that big of a deal; it will be mentioned but it shouldn't affect his game too much as long as he mixes his pitches and his speeds good enough.

It shouldn't, and I agree. BUT....Prior was most effective---when heatlhy---throwing between 93-95. If he is only throwing 88-91, then.....he could be hurt by ML hitters.

But all Simpsons aside, Prior's start tonight gives me hope that the kid isn't done yet. And yes I say kid knowing that he is in fact a year older than me. His ERA was down, and he wasn't walking guys tonight. The 9 K's are also a good sign to me because that shows he's consistently hitting his spots when he really needs to. I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea of him coming back yet though. I'm torn between giving him one more minor league start or bringing him back to the team and seeing if he can keep this up. But I guess it has gotten to the point where we have to handle him with kid gloves. I just pray for no more shoulder injuries... or any injuries at all for that matter.

I usually agree with you, roast. But I have to say, there are definitely some Prior "haters" on this board. The ones who like to call him a pansy, wuss, etc. (Some even pinning steroid accusations on him).

Prior is one of my favorite players. But I have been concerned about what's been going on with him since spring training.

 

Glad to hear about the strong outing tonight and looking forward to seeing him in a Cubs uni. I have more confidence in him than I do the organization he pitches for.
