Say wha???

Right now, possibly, I think Womack can do more in the second spot as far as bunting, the hit and run, than Juan can right now. I've thought about that. I have to sit down and talk to both of those guys, because at this point, we have a couple of leadoff guys.

Um, Dusty, do you realize a leadoff hitter only has value as a leadoff hitter if he can actually get on base?

If you added both their production together you might equal 1 decent leadoff hitter.

Dude, he's got power too. Didn't you see that homer yesterday? he was like *pow* and the ball went *zoom* and we was all like *clap clap clap*.

Ha ha! Career .309 OBP or whatever it is is exactly what this team needs at the top of the order. =D>

Never in all of my many years of being a Cub fan did I actually cheer for Cub losses until this year. I cannot support this idiocy. I just can't do it.

I hope that Dusty and his Pierre/Womack top of the order gets shut out tonight.

Dear Dusty:

Maybe the guys who are only useful when they're bunting or hit-and-running should be at the bottom of the order or not playing at all.

baker's "coaching" his way out of baseball. bat walker 2nd and use nevin @ 1st you stubborn fool.

As long as Hendry is here he will have a job, that being said Baker is a stubborn fool.

Okay, what's wrong with Womack's .359 OBP? Someone please tell me how this isn't an improvement over Pierre and Neifi? Dusty can't do anything right as far as you guys are concerned and maybe you guys will never be happy. If Nevin starts playing and you see how he can't hit except for hitting for power, you guys would complain about THAT!

Put Pierre batting 8th, Cedeno 2nd, and Womack leading off, I wouldn't mind that at all. But geez guys, the team is a lousy team, and anything dusty does won't make any of you guys happy.

Hendry's a gambler, and gamblers sometimes lose. He won with Dempster and won with Lee and won with Ramirez. He lost with Pierre, who he thought would do better. It's a long season and Pierre is not stupid, if you've ever heard him interviewed, he knows he's doing poorly and I'm sure would move willingly to the bottom of the lineup.

But damn it, bashing dusty gets us noplace, he's trying to do anything to spark the team, and nothing will work until DLee comes back, and even then it will be too late. You can't put a dress on a pig and find her a date...

Tony Womack's career OBP is .317. He's not good at getting on base, his past indicates that. 40 at bats doesn't convince me he's a good top of the order hitter.

Neifi's OBP in April 05 was .408. We shouldn't have kept him leading off then, and we shouldn't keep Womack leading off/top of the order now.

People root against Womack because they think that if he does well, Hendry will give him a two year contract to be our starting second baseman next year. I really doubt that will happen, but that's what some people think. It gets pretty annoying to constantly read on here about how people hope that Womack sucks and they hope that the Cubs lose. Long term, short term... I don't care what time frame you're thinking of, if you're a Cubs fan you simply don't root against them. I'm sorry, but that's stupid to root against your team in order to hopefully be better next year - this isn't football.

And as for Nevin... one, he's hitting 216. 216!!! Now I could understand if he was actually a good hitter, but to complain about a guy not getting playing time who's career is almost over? Come on. Nevin sucks and to whine and moan about him not playing is just silly. And besides... when he first joined the Cubs, he played in his first 5 games. He's now gone 3 games without playing. I don't know the circumstances that led to him not getting in the game for the past three games, but does it really matter? Hendry acquired a bat for the bench and that bat has played in 5 out of 8 games. Complaining about Nevin's lack of playing time is just mind boggling.

Okay, maybe he will slump to his career OBP. But he's had 56, not 40 ab's (a small diff, yes), but he's doing well now, so why not keep using him now? Just because his career numbers show that, doesn't mean he will do that this year, though I agree that he probably will...he's still a better leadoff hitter than pierre, he has the same speed, and hits the ball harder...and takes more walks.

There is MUCH more of a chance that Womack plays at or below career #'s than at his current #'s. Also, Womack and Pierre are not interchangable parts unless you want to see Womack in center. If he could play it well, I wouldn't mind that switch, but for now, its more of Womack over Nevin and possibly Walker when Lee comes back.

Nevin's power wasted on bench

So why talk all those weeks about the pressing need for a trade and then barely start Nevin? His power is not going to click without enough at-bats.

"It is a valid argument,'' Baker acknowledged, "but Womack has done pretty darn good, and some of our better defense and speed is with him out there. I thought we wanted small ball?''

Whether Nevin is the answer, no one knows. But no one will ever know if Baker doesn't play him on a regular basis.

Kiley is not very happy with the Cubs. It's a good thing he doen't work for the Trib.

Womack has been pretty good - I'd right the lightning until it starts to disapate. I'd also start him in CF, w/ Walker at 2B and Nevin at 1B, but that's just me. Moreover, I also wonder what JH thinks about the fact that Nevin is picking splinters out of his butt.

Hahahaha.

Womack fits our needs!

Hahahaha.

Now I've heard everything. We're cookin' with gas now baby!! When's the World Series?

I don't understand the rationale of putting Womack in CF. Pierre isn't a defensive wizard by any stretch, but I have to believe that Womack would be worse defensively. For the remainder of the season, who's likely to be most productive? I'm pretty confident that Pierre is the answer to that. And most importantly, what's the purpose of such a move? Womack represents not much of a change, and he (hopefully)has no future with the club in that(or any) fashion. Pierre at the worst has the potential to improve and get us a draft pick in free agency, and at best(or worst depending on your point of view) regains his mojo to be a "speedy leadoff hitter", possibly for an extended period.

Hopefully next year, they are both not playing for the Cubs.
