Which one of these Chicago wanabees with major beer fixations are worse? Which city is more "locked in" to their city's native brew?

I say Milwaukee. It seems in St. Louis there are more options in bars when it comes to beer besides Anheuser-Busch. The Shlafly microbrew is pretty common and other options are prevalent. Spent a lot of time this last weekend in St. Louis drinking my new favorite beer: Blue Moon.

In Milwaukee it seems harder to find anything beside Miller product. When there I spend most of my time drinking mixed drinks.

Don't consider the ballparks since much of that is dictated by contracts. Only consider bars and restaurants.

It's most of Wisconsin from what I've seen. I am a proud drinker of Budweiser, and I have always gotten attitude when ordering one. A bartender in Madison once said to me, "I guess I could go in back and get one for you if that's what you really want."

I told him to "grab a bunch, cuz I'm gettin ready to belly-up".

Thing is that you can get Miller Lite at many places in St. Louis. You can't say the same thing in Milwaukee.

Blue Moon is quite tasty.

Yes it is: with an orange slice is even better.

BTW: Blue Moon is a Coors product. Same as Killians.

Is this poll for taste or which is more prevalent in it's home city?

More prevalent in it's home city. Which brand has more of a lock on it's home market?

Better poll would be:

Leininkugels vs. Blue Moon.

Now that's a tough choice.

BTW, Bud>>>>>Miller.

How about Pittsburgh and Iron City Beer?

Never been there. Only doing the poll because of Chicago's connection to Milwaukee and St. Louis. Plus the fact that I've been both places a number of times to notice each cities zombie-like fixation on a certain brand of beer.

You were in the wrong bar. Madison is known for having different bars for different beers (one of the many reasons it has the highest per capita bars per people in the US).

In downtown, places like The Pub are Miller Establishments. The Bud bars down there are near Frat Row or up towards the Capitol like The Plaza.

The Irish Pub about midway on State St. serves mostly Coors and Euro beers.

And its like that all over town.

Budweiser is trying to change this. They are decreasing prices in the city and have openly announced an attack on Miller. Miller has countered, so it looks like good times for the Kiddies this coming fall. There is an article about the Beer Wars on The Daily Cardinal's site that was written in April. It is a good read.

Blue moon-ies...try Hacker Pschorr Weisse.

Hacker is an excellent beer. Problem is, they're wheat based which I hear makes you naturally tired after drinking - true for me at least.

I really like Spaten Premium Lager if I can find it.

That's why I use the Hacker to wash down the amphetamines.

Having the highest bar/people ratio is nothing to be proud of.

You think it is easy being in the Top 10 Party Schools for the last 25 years? Or being #1 the last two years?

It comes at a price, which is usually a hangover. But we will somehow try to soldier on.

Strategic substance abuse = smart.

I was born in Madison and used to live on Mifflin. I know how it is, even if I didn't participate.

Actually, when I was in Pittsburgh, I found that my favorite Pennsylvania beer is Yuengling Amber. Very tasty.

Yuengling is brewed in Pottsville, PA, outside of Philly.
