Congrats to Marmol. I assume Novoa will be the one sent down.

But who would be demoted from Iowa?

Maybe Williamson wasn't faking it today.

Since it seems to be a call to get a fresh arm, they might just send Novoa down there, especially since he may need a day or two off after throwing 4 times in 5 days(66 pitches).

Possibly. Hendry sure loves to make moves in the bullpen.

Maybe this will open up Gallagher's promotion to AA, though.

I wonder if they would put Marmol in the Iowa rotation then. That'd be tough luck for Walrond, O'Malley, or Valdes. Adding onto the Gallagher promotion idea, did anyone leave the Daytona roster when Lane was promoted there?

Grant Johnson was put on the DL when Lane was activated.

Valdes was released. Sure doesn't look good for Jerome, though. He might not see the Iowa rotation again.

Considering the bullpen was shot thanks to the 14 inning extravaganza and thanks to Williamson's injury, this doesn't come as a major surprise. Granted, I thought Wuertz would get the call...but ah well.

Wuertz can't come back up yet, he was demoted on the 28th. With an off day Thursday and Monday though, I don't see why it was such a huge deal.

Of course, if Williamson goes on the DL too, then Wuertz would probably be on his way back up.

Valdes was released last month.

Wow. That is...unexpected. I could have sworn Wuertz would be called up. But I guess it's too soon...?

Congrats to him. This could be interesting.

Are you sure the 10-day rule applies when someone goes on the DL?

I didn't click on the link (slow connection). Did Williamson go on the DL?

I've always been high on Marmol (I was also high on Steve Rain!); however, I always feared (expected?) he would blow out his arm before reaching the majors. Aren't conversion projects especially susceptible to elbow/shoulder injuries?

Anyways, I hope everyone gives him a chance. It seems like the more vocal members of most Cub web sites lose interest in Cub pitching prospects as soon as they have consecutive poor outings.

He hasn't been officially placed on the DL yet, but it's guaranteed that he will be placed on it.

When Rothschild came out to the mound and Williamson said the same thing two or three times. King Buck said he was saying "I'm fine, I'm fine", But I thought he was saying "I'm done, I'm done". Did anyone else notice this?

marmol gives us an innings eater in case of another 14+ inning showdown. no one else in our pen is really capable of more than 2 innings. this will help. although losing Williamson hurts a little. Maybe the apparent emergence of Aardsma will help out.

Dusty has tried every one of the unready prospects that were available. He had two shots with Wuertz, and he didn't produce. He had Guzman, he wasn't ready. Hill had his shots. Ryu's had a couple. Williams, of course. The choice was one of those guys who have already failed or give Marmol a fresh shot. Not sure he's any more likely to have the control needed to be effective, but whatever. And being scheduled tonight, he's ready to give them innings if they need them tomorrow.
