Almost every stat you wanted to know about Carlos Marmol this season. The R/L splits can be found at Brewcrewball.

Anyways, I sure as heck didn't think Marmol would get the call. He's still very raw. I guess when you suck anyone with an arm sounds good. I guess calling up Marmol instead of Guzman may mean that they see Marmol's future as someone in the pen, not a SP. Of course that's what I see, but just speculating. Brownlie will probably stay in the West Tenn rotation, although Gallagher certainly deserves the callup.

Fleita said he sees Marmol as a future closer, but who knows if they've started to change their minds a bit.

I actually thought Marmol should have been called up to start today's game. After all, I knew the Cubs had no chance of winning with Rusch starting, so I figured Marmol deserved a chance.

Waiter, I'm ready for my crow now. :D

Dusty has tried every one of the unready prospects that were available. He had two shots with Wuertz, and he didn't produce. He had Guzman, he wasn't ready. Hill had his shots. Ryu's had a couple. Williams, of course. The choice was one of those guys who have already failed or give Marmol a fresh shot. Not sure he's any more likely to have the control needed to be effective, but whatever. And being scheduled tonight, he's ready to give them innings if they need them tomorrow.

I really don't think Carlos will have the control yet to be effective, but I'm pleased. He's one of my favorites.

You might be right, but not every pitcher needs Greg Maddux-like control to get the job done. His WHIP of 1.16 is quite respectable especially for a starter and he is K'ing more than a batter per inning. If he can strike people out, he can be an effective reliever.

Of course, he needs to believe in himself like Marshall does. If he can relax and pitch his game, he can succeed, can't he?

Worried about those walks, but good news that he doesn't give up many long balls.

Of course, we've seen from Rich Hill that minor league numbers don't always relate to major league numbers..... :?

i wonder why a guy like rapada didnt get the call instead of marmol. he's been lights out all season and is used to working out of the pen. i saw him pitch against the cougars in kane county last year and he has a really cool submarine delivery.

According to Cubs.com he's not on the 40 man roster.

that would explain it. perhaps if/when they make a trade they can put him on the 40 man. hopefully williamson will recover quickly so they can trade him. along with the rumored interest in maddux & walker, the cubs should be able to get a few good of prospects.

While his WHIP is good, his control is still questionable. More than likely, it will worsen when he gets to the big leagues (as it does for most pitchers). He's still very raw, as kctigers put it.

Depending on when Mateo comes off the DL, Juan could easily replace Carlos in the WT rotation and then Gallagher won't get promoted. I still think Sean will get promoted to AA right after the FSL all-star game.
