If 1 run is going to make the difference today, it's a good play to give up an out to move a runner from 2nd to 3rd when there's no outs. The likelihood of scoring one run goes up, but the likelihood of scoring more than one run goes down.

 

If Dusty believes Marshall only needs one run today, then it was a good decision.

I wouldn't get in too much of a dither over the sac bunt...it's better than the likely alternative: Hairston getting down 0-2 with 7 foul balls before grounding weakly to the shortstop.

If the only way Hairston can be effective is by sac bunting, should he be playing? Should he be on the roster? Probably not. I'm still trying to figure out why Theriot was brought up and wasn't given a chance. It's not like he could do worse than Neifi or Hairston.

 

I'm just saying it's stupid to give away outs when we've got the worst BA and OBP in the majors.

People are hoping that if the Cubs aren't going to be good, then they should be really bad so the people that are causing them to be mediocre get fired.

 

We already explained why bunting a man to third with no outs in the first inning is stupid. Outs are valuable and shouldn't be wasted this early, the guy will move over on a lot of outs anyway, and he will score on most hits anyway.

Is it wrong for people to hope for change in management? It's pretty obvious that this management isn't getting it done.
