This makes perfect sense -- corporations like stability and profits. The Cubs have plenty-o-profits, so no need to change the formula.....

perfect summary.

the trib sucks. :x

Why change? Watch out for next year when the Cubs sell out all their games in an hour, that'll show them.

the only way this all changes is if the trib sells the team and someone who gives a crap blows it all up.

I'm amazed the trib is this bad.

I think it's all across the board on the blame for this mess of a team.

Lots of people to blame, but the buck stops w/ the trib. they make the big decisions.

No they don't. That's the whole point. They don't want to be making the baseball decisions because they're not baseball people.

As has been previously stated, this really isn't anything new. I'd imagine Hendry has been waiting a while to re-sign Baker.

Well they've proved they're not baseball people by resigning these two guys to extensions.

THe resigning of Baker sure will look dumb when the Cubs are second to last, 20 games under and 30 out ofthe race. But blame it on injuries.

Maybe it's just plain old Karma?

They hired the architect of this all, MacPhail. I don't see why this is so difficult to grasp...

They hired MacPhail because he is good with the books. As long as their profit margin is right, the Trib isn't going to meddle.

Steve Stone, as well as Boers & Bernstein, think the extension is pretty much done with the Cubs just waiting for the right time to announce it.

They're waiting for the next 2 game winning streak which may happen around....2010.

That's exactly what will happen, wait for a little winning streak and then give Baker an extension. But does Hendry really think we're that dumb? Quite frankly, it's insulting to me as a Cubs fan. I normally go to between 5-10 games a year and I'm 100% serious when I say that I won't buy a single ticket next year if Baker is extended. I'll still watch the games on TV, but I won't spend my money on the team again until they earn it from me. I know I'm just one person, but it's still one less person putting money in the Tribune's pockets...

So they don't make the big decisions, then.

Having a strong desire to win doesn't mean much. Dusty and Hendry want to win but they have no idea how to do it. Having an owner who's a big fan wouldn't help if they don't go about it in the right way.

My guess is that the extension is coming. They will give Dusty credit for keeping the team together throughout the year with the bad luck, injuries, etc. They'll say they believe he is the right man to get the job done, they have confidence in him etc. I'm sure they'll say how keeping him brings stability to the organization etc. They won't say about the huge profits the last couple of years but the suits probably give him credit for that.

Having an owner who really wants to win, noticing Hendry, MacPhail (F A I L), and Dusty are dumb. Would fire them all and get people who knew what they are doing (along with wanting to win). MacPhail doesn't want to win.

To sum up. If EVERYBODY in the "higher-ups" wanted to win. Things would change, RIGHT NOW.

This is completely, 100% unacceptable. There's no excuse for Dusty continuing as manager now, let alone getting an extension. He has to go now.

The extension is coming.......we as Cub fans will have do deal with it.

And hopefully that's by not making a new attendance record every GD year.
