What will you do when they extend Dusty Baker?

I hoping with every fiber of my being that that doesn't happen. Because you're right...that's going to be a real problem for me.

If and when it does happen I expect the band wagon will become very roomy indeed. He he.

When will you stop? When the Cubs are 20 games out? I want them to lose and lose bad. I want it to be so bad that the entire crowed at wrigley (we know wrigley will never be empty) boos long and loud before, during, and after every game. That every sports writer on the planet writes articles about how major changes are needed. That NATIONAL PRESSURE forces a major cleaning of the Cubs system. I want it to be so horrible that even MacPhail (F A I L) is fired. .

The "house cleaning" you seek will never happen. Wishing for the Cubs to lose is...well....I don't understand it at all.

Sean marshall had a rough game yesterday. That's all. Nolasco pitched a good game. Nothing more.

I agree that there's no reason to root against the Cubs because they aren't going to fire Baker or clean house. As for Nolasco pitching a good game, everyone pitches a good game against the weak-hitting Cubs. If our starting pitcher pitches a fantastic game (no more than 1 run in the 9 innings), then we have a chance for a win. As soon as the other team scores 3 runs, it looks like the Cubs quit.

I really saw something on that field last night. Something that made me think....."My favorite team sucks".

My observations from last night was.

Jones is hiting much better

Am Ram is the king of solo home runs. He GIDP twice before the Solo shot.

Dusty actually got Marshall out of the game to preserve some confidence he might have left only down 4 in the 4th.

Cedano swings at the first pitch every time if it's even near the back stop.

The Cubs look like they all have the Corey Patterson plague. They don't look confortable at all and don't look like they have a plan. During the White Sox game Hawk Harrelson was commenting on how you plan for a pitcher each game. If he is young and has control problems then you take a few and make him throw strikes. The Cubs coaching staff is teaching something other then that apporach from what I can see. I believe they teach swinging at certain zones. If the ball looks like it's in your 'zone' then you swing. It's the totally wrong apporach. But work for players like Barry Bond and Jeff Kent (ala, vereran player that have aunderstanding of baseball.) No wonder why the younger players struggle under the current make-up of the Cubs. The coaching staff coaches thinking the players have more basebal knowledge then they actually do.

Holy crap, are you finally starting to see the light?

Would this be an opportune time to mention Scott's predicted sweep of the Marlins, saying that this would show the world that the Cubs aren't done yet?

If anything, it showed that Girardi has a sharp haircut and Marshall is tall.

Wait, what's the second choice again?

Geting swept by the Marlins would be a total embarrassment, even for a team that has already redefined the word.

Indeed.

Come to the dark side, Scott...root for the sweep...only by truly hitting rock bottom will this team have even a slight chance of crawling back up...

I don't know about that. If the Cubs go 20 games under .500 there is going to be ALL EYES ON HENDRY He's gonna face national critisism and fan hate if he even thinks of extending Dusty. There will have to be some changes made. Pitching Coach, Hitting coach, manager, take your pick.

I now, officially, am rooting for this team to lose every single game for the rest of the year. Hypothetically, if they lost 140 games, they would HAVE to fire the General Manager, right? Right? Please?

One would freakin hope so.

How can they extend Baker if they keep losing?

There would be riotting in the streets.

Well you got your "swept". Now sit back and watch the Cubs back office extend Baker anyway. Thus hoping for a sweep was the dumbest thing imaginable for a Cubs fan. Even for a bad Cubs team!

I've gotten to the point where I am kind of a gnostic Cubs fan. I want the Cubs to extend Baker, resign Fat Glen and Neifi, trade Lee for the rights to Matt Karchner's unborn son, and release Zambrano outright. Then my Cubs won't let me down ever again...and I'll add a smiley face next to my Cubs tatoo on my arm.

Why in god's name are you on the "extend dusty" bandwagon?

No, it was not the dumbest thing imaginable. The absolute worst case scenario would be for the Cubs to just hang around for the rest of the year. Clearly the philosophy of the management and coaching staff is bad, and the only hope we Cubs fans have of seeing a championship team is for change.

If things go much worse, Hendry simply won't be able to extend Baker. He'd be crucified. What he needs to justify the extension are the glimmers of light you are hoping for.

This team isn't going to win, that much is clear. It's little winning streaks and glimmers of light that should be feared. Hendry wants to extend Baker, and the only way that will be prevented is if the door is slammed, and hard. Getting swept by the worst team in the game is the kind of thing that can get something done.

No Cubs fan likes to see the team lose, it sucks. But if anything is going to come out of the talent pool we have now, something is going to have to change, and soon. Winning just enough to remain in the picture only serves to damage the long term interests of the franchise.

Usually the question is... "Would you take a Championship if it meant 20 years of suckage afterwards?"

Most any Cubs fan will say yes to this... Arguably any fan should say this...

What we're looking at here is... "Would you take an 80 win season if it meant 10 years of suckage afterwards?"

If any Cubs fan, or ANY fan said this... well, that just doesn't seem right...

just remembered....do you guys remember when this team actually SWEPT the CARDINALS!?! Just can't believe that actually happened this season. What a tease.

that wasn't this team. that team had derrek lee and a good maddux. this team has crap and carlos zambrano. and michael barrett.
