This is the attitude I'm taking.

I sincerely want this team to get better, and winning 2 of 3 means "Dude, we're starting to win ballgames" while winning 1 of 3 means "Dude, our guys are fighting real hard, balls just aren't dropping for us"

Geting swept by the Marlins would be a total embarrassment, even for a team that has already redefined the word.

Granted, its no guarantee that changes would be made, but this scenario certainly adds the most pressure.

A sweep would be my second choice because I love the Chicago Cubs and I would like to watch them win baseball games.

Its very disheartening to have it come to this.

I totally agree with the OP. I hate this split, win 1, loose 3, win 2, loose 1, loose 2, etc etc thing we have going.

I want a crashing dive into the gutter or a blast to the top rather than the gentle glide into crappyness that we are getting currently.

I think our medeocrity with over the past few years has lulled us to sleep, thinking that we are 'on the verge' rather than realizing that we are indeed truely and woefully just on the south side of average.

Well at least the Cubs are playing someone at their own level......AA ball.

You're right, the Marlins are possibly the worst team in baseball. There are teams in AA that could beat them. Plus, they have just lost 4 of 5 in the ninth or extra innings so they have to be down. If the Cubs can't sweep this team right now, they will have quit for the year.

The Cubs will go in there and take care of business. I believe that they will take the series and will be in a good spot to sweep them.

The Sox were all about going about you business of winning. I believe that the Cubs picked that up and will roll with that to a 4 game winning streak into Atlanta. 2 out of 3 in Altanta would be great and then retobution time against the Reds.

I didn't know there were any more of you optimists around. I hope you're right, but I have trouble believing this team can sweep anybody.

I know this board thinks i'm nuts or borderline trollish but I saw something in the Cubs dugout the last game (with the Sox) that tells me this team is ready to start winning.

Too bad we haven't seen it on the field. (Sorry Scott, couldn't resist)

Not to nitpick fellas, but the cubs play the Braves at Wrigley this month. I sure wish they were coming to Atlanta next week, they aren't until September unfortunately. It's a four game series but they'll probably be totally meaningless for the cubs by then.

Yeah, I saw the same 25 bums that have sucked all year long.

I didn't. I saw something else.

Guys like Theriot and Wood and Novoa. He didn't see Pagan and Williams and Wuertz.

Yes that too.

I also saw a team that looked like it could win. That it could take on a superior team and beat them.

They might have been playing over the head by beating the Sox. I don't believe that.

You're not a troll. Nothing wrong with hope and optimism.

So you saw the Cubs win a game with a late rally and you now see a team taht can beat a superior team in a game? Um, I've got news for you, lesser teams beat superior teams virtually every day. Very few teams are playing over their head by winning 1 of 3 games.

That last game was different.

I'm not going to go in to all the factors because you're smart and probably know most of them.

Only the next game and series will tell the tail.

No please, I fear I don't know all these factors you speak of. Enlighten me.

Convenient that the next series, against the worst team in baseball, is the time to judge where this team is heading, and not the past 15 series.

I think *gulp* a sweep by the woeful Fish might pressure them to fire somebody.

The cream? Or was it the clear?

Just kidding, I hope you're right.

Sorry to poke at this but the last optomist that came by said let's see what they do in the next series.

When is it over? When are you gonna stop saying. Ok the NEXT series. Ok the NEXT series. Ok this is where we start winning, the NEXT series will tell the tale.

When will you stop? When the Cubs are 20 games out? I want them to lose and lose bad. I want it to be so bad that the entire crowed at wrigley (we know wrigley will never be empty) boos long and loud before, during, and after every game. That every sports writer on the planet writes articles about how major changes are needed. That NATIONAL PRESSURE forces a major cleaning of the Cubs system. I want it to be so horrible that even MacPhail (F A I L) is fired. .

The "house cleaning" you seek will never happen. Wishing for the Cubs to lose is...well....I don't understand it at all.

What will you do when they extend Dusty Baker?

Sean marshall had a rough game yesterday. That's all. Nolasco pitched a good game. Nothing more.
