and i'm pretty sure I heard Levine say that the Sox penalties would be announced tomorrow. Anderson and Podsednik are likely to be suspended.

Wow, that's so unfair to Mabry. All he's trying to do in any of the clips shown is seperate guys and Anderson starts laying haymakers on him like it's Raging Bull.

I wonder what Derrek Lee will do if WSI is right. Will he risk being rusty by coming off the DL 5 days earlier then he would have or will he go through his regular rehab and miss 5 games.

Even though they may disagree with the suspension handed to Mabry, he might just serve immediately and have Barrett contest his suspension. Therefore, the suspensions are staggered and there would be no need to bring up a catcher for a few days.

I hope to the sweet Lord above they let him do his regular rehab. This season is nowhere near risking a guy like Lee. Take the losses if need be and let him build some strength.

Mabry being suspended is insane. And relative to previous suspensions, Barrett's is way too long. You can't punish a guy just cause he was competent enough to ladn a punch instead of misfiring. And even if you did, Farns's punches on Wilson were way worse than Barrett's.

 

I don't think MLB suspended Barrett for 10 games because his punch landed, but because his punch was what ignited a bench-clearing fight--a fight that wouldn't have happened had Barrett not punched AJP.

Mabry didn't do any more or less than Anderson. IMO, their punishments should be equal. Which is bogus that Mabry even gets 2 games.

 

I think Anderson did more fighting than Mabry by punching or attempting to punch Barrett and Mabry, thus should be suspended longer than Mabry.

 

The only reason I can think of why Anderson and Mabry's suspensions could be equal is if MLB has video that's not available to us that shows more of Mabry fighting.

Heard it on ESPN1000 from Bruce Levine. Barrett will recieve a 10 game suspension and Mabry will receive a 3 game suspension.

But this is what I don't understand about MLB suspensions. They don't seem to realize that suspensions mean different things depending on whether are you a starter, reliever, or position player. A 10 game suspension for Barrett should theoretically mean 20-25 for a reliever and 50 for a starter. But it never works out that way. MLB just hands out general suspensions without factoring in the players position.

I disagree. A) they do take position into consideration. You ever seen a suspension for a starting pitcher below 5 games? It's not a coincidence. The point isn't suspending guys for the same number of games, but taking them away from their team for the same percentage of the season.

I heard that he did, but I have not seen it in writting yet. I do think he will be though for coming on the field while not on the 25 man roster.

He did but I don't remember if it was because he was out on the field or because he was arguing balls/strikes with an ump and then was ejected.
