Jones comes through again with yet another clutch homerun... Sure hes been bad running the bases, but hes stepped up his hitting big time, and clutch hits like that, we have to take it easy on him from now on and stop booing him... lets just hope the cubs dont blow their lead now

I swear to god, He only hits gamewinners.

at least the jones signing hasn't backfired like the pierre trade and the rusch & nef resignings.

if the cubs could deal off pie & a prospect or two for a big time hitter, i have no problem w/ jones in cf next year.

That makes two of us. The only thing is, we can just sign Lee and not even have to trade pie. Or trade Pie and Marshall for Cabrera and still sign Lee.

I would be fine with the outfield of Lee in LF, Jones in Center and Pie/Murton in RF next year.

I would die if we get him.

Somehow I doubt the Cubs dont have the trigger finger for it. And what makes you think Jones can handle center field and not be platooned?

I think Lee will be too expensive for the Trib's blood and they'll turn to a toolsy player like Soriano, who's attitude may drop his price some.

I think Wood and Maddux coming off the books will make us the favorites to get Lee.

Would you offer 4/40 for him?

Lee isn't coming off a great 2005. It's probably too early to conclude that Soriano would make significantly less than than Carlos Lee in the open market.

Jones needs to rock a few more left handed pitchers before I start to "love" him. But today definitely elevated me to " non-hostile tolerating."

What Jones needs is a good platoon partner so that a couple of good lefty starters don't mess with his stroke or his confidence.

Don't blame JJ's troubles with LHPs, blame Hendry for putting him in a position to fail. If this team can give $5 million to Neifi!, it can afford a couple million more for a platoon partner in RF.

True.

All this Carlos Lee talk has visions of Murton platooning with JJ in RF, and all would be right with the world.

Really happy to see Jacque pull out a huge HR for us, and for the Cubs to avoid a sweep.

No one should be booing Jones. He's putting up roughly the same numbers he's put up his last few seasons in Minnesota, and regardless what was said when he was signed, that's the performance fans should expect. Anybody now unhappy with the way Jones is playing should boo Hendry.

I'll still boo him when he misses the cutoff man or gets doubled up off second. Those are plays he should make.

I'm also hesitant to call him clutch. There are plenty of situations this year that he could have hit a HR and saved us, but weakly grounded out. His splits against LHP are a joke.

But this certainly makes me like him more.

Not so fast about Maddux coming off the books. When we lose Wood, we might want to keep a 12-14 game winner in the 4th or 5th position. We'll have Z, Prior, Marshall and .......

I listened to a lot of the series on radio, primarily with the Sox coverage. Ed Farmer is definatly afraid of Jacques Jones. He has been pretty good this month though, If he keeps it up and the Cubs find someone to platoon in RF with him this could still be a ok FA aquisition. It could still also really back fire also.

didn't jacque regularly beat up on the sox with minnesota?

thought i heard in his 1/27 vs buehrle the 1 was a game winning hr.

I agree. I think whether or not we resign Maddux should depend on both how he does this year - namely towards the end of the year - and how much money he asks for.

As for Jacque, I think pretty much everybody can agree that he should be platooned regardless of what position he plays so he doesn't have to face lefties.

Had to chime in on this. That plan is a no no. Prior ok we are going to keep him but we dont' rely on him. Miller is well known to have "arms flailing" mechanics. Guzman you don't count on as anything more than a #5, and he still has to prove that this year, which he has not as of yet.

Z, (#2 pitcher signing), Maddux, Marshall, Prior (then you use those other guys when Prior is not ready to pitch)

I'm agreeing with you on the point but I love how you put "when Prior is ready to pitch." This is what we've come to. We just assume he's going to get hurt.

Jones is terrible in the field. He throws like an 8 year old girl and can't figure out that you need to tag up on a fly ball.

His home run today was a great play. Let's see some more before we shower him with "love". He is finally starting to get close to his average over the last couple of years.
