I figure its going to take 90 wins to pick up the WC. That means the team will need 73 more wins in 121 games or .603 ball from here out.

The thing that worries me (besides the fact that we have as much offensive threat as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest) is that there are 4 teams in our division ahead of us and we have fallen 9.5 back after tonight. 10 games out is the kiss of death in your division, where the exceptions are far outweighed by the rule.

Going to take a Herculean effort from here to win. Just dont think we have it in us.

The odds of that happening with this manager and this team are almost as good as you winning the Illinois Lottery tonight.

I don't think we're any good. We're certainly not good enough to overtake 4 teams 8.5 back. Even at full strength we'd have needed luck.

My guy Aramis has been MIA, but even if he's himself, we'd still be about where we are. Pierre has been terrible, just terrible. We have too many holes. Not enough offense. Inconsistent pitching. Laughable managing.

I would rather see us dynamite the periphery of this team, keep Barrett, Z, Prior, Aramis, Murton, Lee and Cedeno, and get rid of just about everyone else, and build around that group. I could almost stomach losing if it looked like we'd be building for 2007.

Unfortunatly, that won't happen. At some point, we'll make a run, go on a little streak, and get back to spitting distance. Somewhere like 5.5 out in 3rd place. And then we'll limp around playing .500 ball the rest of the way. And we'll have wasted a chance to get value for Pierre and Walker, and wasted the chance to unload Jones on some sucker team that needs an OF at the deadline.

And when we finish 80-82, or whatever, we'll hear about injuries. And bad luck. And we'll hear nothing about the deeply rooted organizational flaws that will choke this team to death until thy're eliminated.

I'd be stunned if we even finished 80-82. We're bad. God old-fashioned, country bad.

I don't think ARam is untouchable anymore. I'd want him included in a firesale.

This isn't a knee-jeck reaction in response to his failure to contribute since DLee went down. I been disgusted with his hustle, hitting, and leg injuries.

I disagree, but whatever. He's legges out a couple IF hits, played good defense, and last year's leg injury was flukish.

His hitting should come around. You don't give him up. If you did, unless you got a top 3B prospect you just create yet another hole for our "brilliant" GM to fill.

I would be surprised if we get to 70 wins. This team is just bad.

The starting pitchers go out there knowning they have to be pretty damn near perfect every outing.

If we fall behind early, our offense cannot manufacture an attempt at a comeback.

Reality has set in. Good teams do not go pathetic periods like we are on.

I wouldn't be surprised if Prior doesn't even pitch until after the break.

He is not the answer to our problems.

The list is too long.

Third base had been a black hole ever since Santo retired, except for a couple of short stretches (Madlock, Cey). We finally have a good third baseman. We need to keep him unless we can get an equally talented 3B back in a trade; we don't need to go back to the revolving door policy.

Amen! I think Ramirez is uncomfortable being "The Man". His strength is being the 2nd or 3rd best hitter on the team. Also, don't forget that he is still pretty young. Obviously, if the Cubs get someone like Cabrera, then Ramirez is expendable, but not when your next 3B is named Perez.

I very much agree with the idea that Ramirez simply isn't designed to be THE hitter in a lineup...he's best suited to be a #4 guy and draw pitches that he'll blast. That's who he is. If Lee can come back and stick around .300 and Hendry goes out and gets the #5 guy the team needs (or someone who hits #3 if Lee needs to build back up...or can't), Aramis would be devastating again. As of right now, nobody has any reason to pitch to him, and it's killing him.

119 games left. 72 wins or .605 now.

10th place for Wild Card- 6.5 behind Cincinnati and Zona/Rockies for the spot.
