  1. At least we still have Heyward. :banghead: After losing so much talent the last five years without getting much of anything, I'm surprised I'm still a fan of this team. Also we ARE a big market team.. how can people still not think that?!??! https://www.statista.com/statistics/193637/franchise-value-of-major-league-baseball-teams-in-2010/ Its for 2021, the link is updated. And the Cubs come in fourth just barely behind the Red Sox. Dodgers and Yanks take the top but not that far ahead.
  2. Your core is your core. Its the best you have. If Rizzo, Bryant and Baez aren't good enough (and I am not blind to all there faults) then you better find replacements as good or better. That's what GMs are supposed to do. And the idea that all 3 of these guys were looking for 100s of millions of dollars... theres no evidence... and anyway that's there right to do. Look at it this way, the Cubs as an organization look WORSE then they did pre2012. They look cheap, miserly and spendthrifts. They look unrealistic and in sell mode. More concern was paid to the effing Marquee Network than to the team itself it seems. Lets see how much they spend. Right now as it stands, The White Sox are miles above the Cubs as a team and organization. If I were a player I would NOT want to come to Chicago... unless it was the White Sox. Expect 'rumors' of the Ricketts wanting to sell in a few months. DO IT. SELL, YOU BASTARDS.
  3. I remember just recently Dillon Maples having nasty stuff.
  4. Someone sell me on our farm system and that we can compete by 2023. I just don't see it. They threw out the baby and the bathwater all the way since 2019 and haven't stopped. If this was a legitimate management/ownership then find ways to get rid of Heyward, find replacement level players for guys we lost in our rotation and in OF, but they barely did anything since the end of 2018. WTF!?! Now they expect to play cheap like the Rays? THIS IS A MAJOR MARKET TEAM. THEY SHOULD COMPETE EVERY YEAR. No, its back to losing and wait til next year. At least in the 2000s, as bad as the organization was in the past, they really did want to win. This time I dont see it. I feel the management does not care. After there stupid Marquee network was released at a terrible tine, not our problem. They overspent on everything BUT the team on the field since 2018. Why should i give a horsefeathers for another rebuild? THIS IS A REBUILD. We have no core anymore.
  5. 11 of the last 31 games the Cubs have scored a run or less. Did anybody really expect the Cubs to go to the WS this year? Baez trying to pick up the load for the whole team won't work. Yelich did it with some help, Brewers are good (and hot). And the Cubs didn't even get a hit from the ninth to the end of the game... 16k's, could have had at least two or three walks in those 4 innings.., Til Next Year!
  6. "More disappointing: 2004 cubs or 2018 cubs? Let’s say Chili is fired. Who do you want to replace him?" I'm not that dissapointed as in 2004 because we finally have that WS. But I am pisssed we didn't get the NLC pennant. Overall wasn't expecting them to get to the WS this year honestly. There hitting has been so sporadic (except Baez) since All Star Break.
  7. Maddon didn't have 16 K's vs the Rockies. Maddon is not going anywhere.
  8. :flythew: It Happened! :flythew:
  9. Gah, Aardsma = Farnsworth Part II (the bad Farnsworth). etc
  10. Wow, this kid reminds me of Juan Cruz with much better control... or like... hes just good it seems...but then again, I also thought Rich Hill was the next Zito... Anyway, I like watching this Marmol! etc
  11. What's more pathetic is that pre season, on paper, our team looked halfway decent... not terrible... it just makes it feel like a total waste. Cmon Cubs... It's not even July and we're talking next year already... sheesh. Why am I Cubs fan?!?!? gah... etc
  12. What is up with blaming Neifi for this teams woes? He sucks, the team sucks, the management sucks, the fans are starting to ... suck... gah... I mean picking on ONE guy is not just right when most of the players just plain suck. etc
  13. Our offense has been so bad... I'm wondering if Sosa can still play... etc
  14. I'd take a jerk manager with a WORLD SERIES RING than a sleeping manager... God save us. etc
  15. .274 / 157 hits / 59 runs is far from terrible. Yes his OBP sucks, but he is put at #2 to put bat on ball to advance Pierre... that's the most obvious reason why he is hitting #2 (though I'd rather him hit 7 or 8 as a starter). All this Neifi bashing is used to justify Dusty's failures. There's ALOT more reasons to bash Dusty than with his handling of Neifi... like how he handled Sosa or Wood or whatever. YOU LEAVE NEIFI ALONE! HE'S HITTING .571 now! etc
  16. So people are still trashing Neifi (haven;t been to the these boards in awhile!)... albeit he isn't that great aplayer he still ain't terrible. Honestly... I would rather have him play MORE than both Hairston and Walker... Hairston is more dead weight than either Neifi and Walker.. and Walker is probably going to turn into an IF version of Hollandsworth... Neifi is scrappy, and most importantly, plays solid Defense. I always think of Walker as a crybaby for some reason...maybe thats my bias. Never hear problems with Neifi and the press either. etc
  17. Wow. I don't see how Pujols can't be liked. Even as a Cubs fan I have to admit he's one of my favorite players. He is everything you could want from a player and a person. Seeing the story ESPN ran on him a while back about him and the down syndrome kids sealed the deal for me. I don't PERSONALLY hate him, I just hate him because HE IS SO GOOD and plays for my most HATED team. I always look at Pujols as a Sosa if he had a brain. Pujols even mentions copying the bat speed and contact style of Sosa as an influence on his swing.... gah... Yeah he's a good player, works hard, and isn't an idiot. but still... hes a friggin Cardinal! etc
  18. What a terrible choice... I can'[t stand White Sox fans but the team ain't that bad and I like Ozzie Guillen. The Astros fans i could care less about (just another expansion city no baseball knowledge fanbase -generally speaking- not as bad as whatever they call the Marlins fanbase) but I hate the Astros team themselves. Cards I can't stand, both the fans and there team. So adding it up I'd have to go for the hometown White Sox.. barely. Astros are annoying. And the Cards NO friggin WAY! I can't stand Pujols, even though he is probably the greatest Cardinal since Musial. And if he keeps it uo for another 8-10 years, maybe best position player ever (at least of our generation). Gah.. and hes a Card. etc
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if AT LEAST HALF the major league roster players in baseball took steroids at one time or another. This is professional sports with millions and millions of dollars on the line... doesn't suprise me in one bit. And MLB was pretty lax for a LONG time. And don't kid yourself... any competitive player from any era would probably have done the same thing.. hell the Black Sox threw a world series for money.... etc
  20. I don't think hes the next Zito, but I do think he has potential especially considering he throws a pretty good curve. I don't think we have a lefty throw as good a curve as he throws. And good southpaw curveballers are usually rare. If he can spot his low 90's fb and pickup a slider/changeup to complement that curve I think he could be at least a solid fourth or fifth starter. This is only based on 2 starts though... not much else I've seen. But I do like his curve. etc
  21. Hollandsworth has put up the following line this month: .206/.271/.365 Outside of a couple weeks in June, Holla hasn't done anything all season. You're telling me that Murton hasn't looked much better than Holla? Come on. I'm not saying Murton is better or worse, I'm just saying based on the AB's I've seen of him, I don't find him anything particularly great... except that he DOES use the right field to hit... but then again he only has 34 AB's total. Lets remember last year when Dubois was the talk of the boards as was Hollandsworth over Sosa? Look at it as just another prospect imo. I just find it premature to talk of Murton as the saviour in LF. I definitely would have him start more (not many starting LF/CF options as is) to see what he can do, but wouldn't expect much. Whether he takes walks, hits alot or gets on base more remains to be proven imo. etc
  22. The three guys coming back means nothing to our chances since all three are unproven for this year... and I think Hendry AND Baker realize this. The way the Cubs have been playing, I really think they don't believe they can make the playoffs. They realistically have a chance, they are only 4 game back in the WC... but with 2 unproven starters, a shaky bullpen, LF and CF shuffling, inconsistency day in day out etc etc etc... we'd have to have Nomar at pre injury 2003 levels and Wood/Williamson would have to be solid from the pen (and remain healthy) ... its too much to ask. The only realistic chance is if the other WC teams play mediocre at or arnd .500 the rest of the year and we get in with some luck. etc
  23. You guys need to chill with the Murton expectations. Just like alot of people pined for Dubois and Hairston to start (and Holls to start earlier this year), be real... alot of the Cubs OF is a bunch of filler fourth outfielders, besides Burnitz. I'm curious what REAL expectations people have of Murton? I personally see a right handed average fielding average arm Outfielder with a swing and approach to the plate ala Grudzialanek...anything more is asking too much imo. I couldb e wrong with what little I've seen of Murton, but I just don't see the vastly superior hitting of Murton over a Hairston, Hollandsworth or Dubois. etc
  24. [-X Hey, if he could net the Cubs a franchise-level LF, I'd be all for it! :D Like a Manny Ramirez? :D Though, I wouldn't trade him so early... a young lefty with potential is gold these days. I wouldn't trade him yet. etc
