KXNO Radio in Des Moines in the I-Cubs radio outlet. Not sure if it's available on-line. You can also order webcasts of the games at http://www.iowacubs.com. Click on the IowaCubs.tv link on the home page.

Des Moines Register story on Wood's start:

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060512/SPORTS0301/605120415/1053

The I-Cubs' PR guy is responsible for assigning uniform numbers at the start of the season. Apparently he always holds back No. 34 so Kerry can use it when he makes his rehab start. Even keeps the jerseys in his office so they don't get assigned by mistake.

That'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.

"Kerry Wood has made more money here in Des Moines than the CIETC executives," said Steve Pilchen, the radio personality and local comedian who goes by The Round Guy. "I'm not saying that he's been here a whole lot, but he's just bought a house next door to Archie Brooks."

Those crazy Iowan comedians.

That's gold Jerry, gold!

Thank you for the thread and the links.

Again, I have a lot more interest in this game than the Cubs vs. Padres.

Good Luck Kerry !

I'd have more interest in the I-Cubs overall, but they suck this year too.

Apparently Kerry was in Des Moines last night too. Anybody in Des Moines know if he's been hanging out at Johnny's Hall of Fame tipping a few back with the locals?

If I was a betting man, I'd bet he was SOMEWHERE tipping back a few.

I went to the game last night, since I can't go tonight. I was hoping to see Woody, but didn't see him anywhere. I guess I have seen him pitch every other time he has been here, so 4-5 isn't bad. Heck, 4 out of 5 makes me the best hitter on the Cubs by .700 points on my batting average.

Anyway, I asked Buck Coats where Woody would be taking them after the game, and he responded by saying anywhere that has good steak and cold beer.

On a side note, Felix Pie hit two homers last night, one a game winner. However, I was disappointed in his fielding. Missed numerous cut off men. Looked like he was trying to "show off" his arm eventhough it moved runners up bases. Don't get me wrong, I think he is going to be good, but some of the "fundamentals" can be improved. I have seen Iowa twice, and both times, he made some bad decisions. I would really like to see him stay in Iowa all year to work on these things.

Can't wait for the game tonight and can't wait for the 17th (which I'm going) to see Wood back. I'll always be a Wood fan. Can't explain it but I love to watch this guy pitch. Gives you everything he has for as long as he can.

Last year in Des Moines, it was a blast to stand right by the bullpen when he was warming up before the game. When he got loose and let go, a few fastballs were very hard to see. You could see him release, then Soto's glove would pop. Then again, I had a few tallboys in me by that point, so my eyes could have been a bit slow.

i'll be there, weather permitting.

"I don't know that anybody has an answer why Kerry seems to be hurt a lot," said Andy MacPhail, president of the Chicago Cubs who OK'd Wood's $12 million-a-year contract. "There's speculation about delivery - about throwing across his body - but who really knows? Some people are just injury-prone.

this is the guy that's in charge?

It's almost as though he's trying to get fired.

Edit: I just remembered Costanza wearing the Babe's uniform and dragging the WS trophy around the parking lot trying to get fired.

It's always fun to watch Kerry pitch when healthy. When he's on he makes hitters look like little kids.

Its pretty chilly and windy here right now, shouldn't affect attendance though. They're estimating a record crowd of over 15,000 for tonight's game.

I tried to get tickets on Tuesday night but reserved seating was already sold out and only general admission/standing room tickets were being sold.

I was hoping Mediacom would televise the game like they did last time Kerry was here, but I don't believe they are going to tonight.

Too bad the rest of the Iowa Cubs team sucks this year......guess the big boys aren't faring too much better right now. Another day, another loss.
