I really want to see an all-out bench-clearing throw-down right now. Blood, suspensions, the whole nine yards.

Nefi, rusch and pierre permanantly unable to play again...

Seriously, when your Sox or Cardinal "friends" mock the Cubs, how can you defend them?

You can't! I just try to change the subject any way I can..."So how about that Bears draft?"

In all honesty another manager with this team wouldn't do much better.

I believe there's so truth in this.

We'll hire another ex-player from the 60's who believes in conventional baseball wisdom. He'll let his starters throw too many pitchers, only use his best reliever in "save" situations, insist on a fast guy at the top of the order instead of a high-OBP guy, sac bunt and hit-and-run us out of innings, etc.

There was a bit about the copycat nature of modern managing in an article in today's BP by Joe Sheehan. A blurb:

"But beyond a few examples, what characteristics do the vast majority of managers have? There’s virtually no innovation coming from the dugout any longer. What does Buddy Bell do that makes him qualified for his job? How does Eric Wedge or Mike Hargrove or Charlie Manuel or Bruce Bochy make the team better, add value to the organization in a way that shows up in the win column?

I don’t mean to single out these guys. My argument isn’t that they’re bad managers, it’s that the standards for what makes a good or bad one aren’t clear beyond, “winning good, losing bad.” "

Rusch is HORRIBLE.

And Hendry should be canned for blowing money on that turd.

Agreed that 12 mil/2 he gave Neifi and Rusch could've been used on a much needed SP. These guys have to go.

And since the game is already over, why take Rusch out? Why not just make him throw 70-80 pitches whether he gives up no runs or 12 runs? Don't bring Williamson in.

What the hell has happened to this team in the last 1 1/2 weeks?

Reality. Look at the lineup and the starters the Cubs have been throwing out there, and try to say with a straight face that they should be winning consistently.

oh, c'mon. look at the lineup, even as pathetic as it has been without Lee, and try to say honestly that that lineup is only capable of scoring a run a game for two weeks.

it's not reality. I didn't expect an offensive juggernaut, especially without Lee, but this is bizarr-o world type stuff.

Yeah, they have been in a collective slump, but you've got ONE guy on the team (ARam) who can be relied upon to put up an OPS+ above 100. I.e., you've got one guy on the team who you know is an above-average hitter. Barrett and Walker are above-average for their positions, but average in terms of any hitter. Neifi is bad; Cedeno (as a shortstop) can be expected to be below 100. Jacque is below-average for a RF but near average for a hitter. Pierre is below-average too, especially if he plays like he did last year - and he's playing worse. Murton it's hard to say, but it's unlikely he'd be much better than Jones due to his lack of power.

This is a lousy lineup, there are no two ways around it.

It's one thing to say no other manager could make this a .600 ballclub. It's probably true that most managers would have a tough time playing .500 ball with this club.

But do people really think every manager would get this little out of this club? The talent level isn't that low.

not many lineups would have won 5 of the last 6 games. the pitching's getting lit.

8 runs today. 9 runs yesterday. 6 runs on tuesday. 8 on monday. 6 last sunday.

Yeah...I wish they'd just drop them or send them to the minors. I dont ever want to see Rusch pitch again.

So what the deuce happened with Guzman? 87 pitches in 3 innings? Thats 29 pitches an inning.

put 2.7 runners on an inning and you're going to throw a lot of pitches.

edit: make that 3 per inning. forgot about the hbp

Exactly, and the talent level was as good or better in 2004 and 2005 and Baker got nothing out of them either.

What happened in 2004 is a bigger crime that what's happening this year. That team was a playoff team if Baker's not managing it.
