Guzman's next start will be in Iowa. He's been given 4 start and just isn't ready yet. Thankfully he hasn't faced a really good offense and got shelled.

Seems to me out of Guzman and Hill, Angel has the most promise, but right now is just simply not ready. He has Todd Wellemeyer syndrome

Guzman's walks are killing me. You can't get ahead of guys 0-2 and then waste so many pitches. Our fabulous pitching coach sure doesn't seem to focus on pitching efficiency. Might be a good idea considering how often our staff is injured.

I think its likely an offshoot of our hitting "philosophy"...Camp Dusty hates walks by our hitters and cant understand why the other team would take them either...they tell the staff just to throw it up there because its called hitting not walking and when they don't swing and ground out weakly to 2nd they sit there and look perplexed.

Fun fact - Angel Guzman has now walked as many batters in less than 3 innings of this game as he did in the 66 minor league innings of his 2004-05 seasons.

WTG Angel!!!

75 + Pitches and not through 3 innings. That's not good is it?

Especially since Dusty doesn't keep track of pitch counts.

Was it Baylor who said they didn't keep track? I think Dusty might keep track but he just doesn't care how high it goes. He just likes numbers.

Maybe Dusty keeps track now, but I remember a quote from Dusty indicating that he just goes by whether the pitcher looks tired or not in a Trib article after a game in which Prior had pitched 130+ pitches.

Is it me or is cheepseats obviously kidding about the Mabry power hitter comparisons?

Not obvious enough...I missed it at first....

Me neither. I thought he was at first, but then he seemed serious. But I thought about cheapseats and I thought there was no way he could be serious. And then I flip flopped to him being serious.

if he doesn't get the pitcher, pull him

At 90 pitches or so he's got to be pulled anyway doesn't he? I mean...its not like he's thrown 90 over 7 and has been in control. 30+ pitch innings by guys his age are not a good idea.

87 pitches in 3 innings and they only scored 2 runs? I always thought Gooz was a control type of pitcher in the minors.

Prior does the same damn thing. I think it is pretty obvious that Rothschild's philosophies focus on getting hitters out on pitches outside of the zone. ridiculous approach when the entire staff is full of 'stuff' pitchers.

throw it over the middle of the plate and let the natural movement of the pitch get it off of the sweet spot of the bat.

Don't think, it can only hurt the team.

yep, pull him now. i'm glad they kept him in there so he could work his way out of it. let him leave on a good note.

He was... averaged just over 2 walks per 9 innings in his minor league career.

Yeesh... 29 pitches per inning so far. I must say I've been very impressed with Angel's stuff since is callup, but his walk rate is beyond ridiculous right now. If I recall correctly he had decent control before all his injury troubles, so hopefully he can get that back without losing too much of his newfound strikeout potential.

But coach, I thought we were supposed to have an aggressive approach!

Unless your Rusch and you have no movement.
