if he doesn't get the pitcher, pull him

At 90 pitches or so he's got to be pulled anyway doesn't he? I mean...its not like he's thrown 90 over 7 and has been in control. 30+ pitch innings by guys his age are not a good idea.

Absolutely. The San Fran announcers talked about how many high effort innings Hill had racked up even though his total was relatively managable. 87 with such struggles is much harder than 87 smoothly over 8 innings.

Guzman's walks are killing me. You can't get ahead of guys 0-2 and then waste so many pitches. Our fabulous pitching coach sure doesn't seem to focus on pitching efficiency. Might be a good idea considering how often our staff is injured.

Prior does the same damn thing. I think it is pretty obvious that Rothschild's philosophies focus on getting hitters out on pitches outside of the zone. ridiculous approach when the entire staff is full of 'stuff' pitchers.

throw it over the middle of the plate and let the natural movement of the pitch get it off of the sweet spot of the bat.

Unless your Rusch and you have no movement.

87 pitches in 3 innings and they only scored 2 runs? I always thought Gooz was a control type of pitcher in the minors.

He was... averaged just over 2 walks per 9 innings in his minor league career.

I thought so because that was what he was known for in the minors. I think Injuries set him back the past two years. I think he needs another year in the minors. At least a year.

I noticed something. If you remove the pitcher and completely reverse the line-up (i.e., Hairston batting first, Murton batting second, etc.), it makes more sense than the line-up than Dusty has out there today.

Seriously...

Hairston

Murton

Mabry

Barrett

Ramirez

Cedeno

Neifi

Pierre

P

It's not a particularly good line-up, really, - I'm reminded of deck chairs on the Titanic and all that - but it does seem a bit more sensible than what he has out there.

Only Dusty Baker, folks.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!! A sacrifice from our #3 hitter. Dusty is a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's face it he's not a 3 hitter but we don't have one and you need to get runs anyway you can. Espically with the wind blowing in.

BOTTOM OF THE THIRD INNING

Perez singled to left center field

Cedeno sacrificed, 1-3, Perez to second

Ramirez flied out to deep center field, Perez to third

Barrett grounded out to second, 4-3

0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 1 men left on base

y would you sac when the other team has already scored 2 runs in 3 innings? I hate the sac bunt and really hate it when the manager doesnt know how to use it.

Sacrifices with the number 3 hitter rule.[/quote

Especially in the 3rd inning of a game in which your starter is pitching poorly and will be out of the game soon.

Three runs will win the game today.

baker has bunt threats throughout the order.

if z's on the mound, i can see sacrificing. this move is shaky, since the cubs will need 6-7 runs today.

Judging by how fat Rusch is getting, I'd guess he has some great "movement" while on the can.

Sure that isn't Rusch in your sig??

Because if you haven't noticed we haven't been exactly scoring runs lately, so dusty has to try to get runs anyway you can. I have no problem with that play.

Yeesh... 29 pitches per inning so far. I must say I've been very impressed with Angel's stuff since is callup, but his walk rate is beyond ridiculous right now. If I recall correctly he had decent control before all his injury troubles, so hopefully he can get that back without losing too much of his newfound strikeout potential.

I don't think the wildness should be that much of a surprise. He's had very few innings pitched the past 2 years. He's just getting back into the rhythm.

Baker is clueless. Two bad the only two people who don't know that are Hendry and MacPhail.

Let's face it sac bunting is the dumbest move ever, unless it's the end of a game.

If you let Cedeno hit, and he gets a hit, Perez goes to 3rd and scores on Aram's fly ball (you can get a run on an out or a hit)

If you sacrfice, you HAVE to get a hit.

Saccing is STUPID.
