No wonder Baker loved SF

With fawning columns like this piece of garbage, its fairly obvious why Baker seems to have so much trouble with the slightest bit of prodding. Could this be any more of a "poor Dusty" column? Life must be so hard for him-he's only getting 14 million to guide the team to 5th place.

I'm going to have to defend Jenkins on this one. I don't think this is one of his better columns, but he is a good writer. I generally enjoy reading his material. Obviously you aren't going to like everything one person puts out, but most of his writing is good.

I think most people don't want to believe that. I know I don't.

 

I was genuinely shocked and disturbed when I heard some of the stuff that happened to Hawkins, but that sort of prepared me for this.

 

It seems naieve I know, but when it's not out there for everyone to hear, you forget about it, and wrongly assume that that sort of thing is getting further in the rear view. At least I do. I am sure this is probably not the case for people who are on the recieving end of that garbage, but many of us are blissfully ignorant.

 

 

It's just really disappointing. Dusty is a lousy manager, but he seems like a really nice guy. Nobody deserves that kind of crap.

Because as Mrs. Rosa Parks told me one day when I was blessed enough to meet her, the Racism in the South was easy to overcome. We are honest about it. Its the racism in the north where it is still hidden that is the hardest fight the civil rights movement faces.

 

This is in the late 80's when I met her and I am sad to say things havent changed much. On the bright side they have changed and I think its better in some ways than it was 30 years ago. The whole journey of a million miles begins with the first step view I guess.

Most of the "classic" ball clubs have a deep undercurrent of racism that is going to take a LONG time to finally be rid of. It's not usually blatant and pretty easy to avoid, but far too often it's the first thing some people go to when they're pissed at a player or manager. Boston, New York and Chicago are probably the biggest culprits in that area, probably in that order. Yeah, of course it's not everyone, but those are some old teams with some HUGE fan bases, and some of these racist goons last generation after generation.

I'm sure he did at some point (Cough 1998). Another question this has me wondering is what about Frank Robinson. I wonder if he goes through some of the same things? Personally, I think most of the people that would send a manager emails using racial slurs to show how much of an idiot the manager is, are really dumbing down the argument about why the manager needs to be fired.

 

And yes, I met Dusty, as a person he is incredibly friendly. In a way, I'm saddened by the way the he is being treated because he takes a lot of time to talk with the fans. I also think that anyone who didn't know him, and took took the time to write him in a discriminatory way, are bunch of idiots.

 

That is all. The Cubs won tonight, and I've upped my post count by almost a fifth in the past week. Gnight nsbb, and this outfit remains on.
