The next manager of the Cubs will be Brenly or Speier, and I have little problem with either.

I don't have a big problem with either. Just wish Joe Girardi were available.

i dont listen to brenley, i prefer the radio but when i do, he is a lot like stoney in the fact that he says what is about to happen and sure enough it happens. i wonder why Dusty cant figure that out.

He might not be as opinonated as stoney was but lets face it, he dosent want to rock the boat because he wants that job.

too bad we missed out on Girardi though :x

Righttttt. Like we'd want a guy with a career .276 winning percentage.

Girardi wasn't responsible for the fire sale for the Marlins. I'd like to see any other manager do any better with a team full of minor leaguers. He spent a few seasons in New York working with Girardi and the guy has a good grasp for the game. I know for a fact I wasn't the only one that wanted Girardi in the offseason (i think vance was a pretty big guy in terms of getting Girardi here).

I would not have a problem with Brenly though, I'm that sick of Baker.

If the Hendry dumps Baker, I am sure whoever they hire would only be interim, and I doubt Brenly would take that gig on an interim basis.

I used to like Stone and even defend him, but hearing some of his gibberish on the score has turned me off to him. No wonder he hasn't gotten a job as a GM. Which is what he wants. He doesn't want to manage or coach.

Could the Cubs possibly bring on Brenly to play skipper? I have to admit I do like his style of coaching.

Ladies and gentlemen, Bob Brenly posts at NSBB!

I'd take Brenly. Over Baker? Come on. Easy decision.

Would he be my first choice? Probably not. But if it's Brenly now or watch Baker for another 5 months, then give me Brenly please.

I'll even take Otto in the booth for 5 months. Basically anything to get Baker out at this point. If someone's got a good idea how to get Hendry out of here too, please share.

what are we doing with a manager with a winning percetage over 500?

Brenley has this, a World Series ring, Baker dosent

I never saw a manager try harder NOT to get one of those than he did in the 2001 playoffs. It helps to have Schilling and Johnson. I'd rather keep the "Brenly face" out of our dugout.

So wait. You're saying a manager who doesn't burn out his two super-stud pitchers and wins a World Series because of it should be kept out in favor of one who burns them out and begins a death march into the abyss?

Help me out here.

Brenly made Johnson go seven innings in Game 6 when he knew there was a darn good chance he'd want to bring him out of the pen in Game 7. I know what you're saying though, seven innings doesn't sound so bad...

Until you realize the DBacks were up 1-0 in the first inning, 4-0 in the second inning, 12-0 in the third inning, and 15-0 by the end of the 4th.

Quoted for truth.

Seriously, Brenly did everything he could to lose that series. The Randy Johnson thing was absurd. The fact that he was pitchng after the fifth was nuts. It was a miracle those guys did what they did. I can't think of a worse manager with a WS ring. I really can't.

Can Brenly still hit? No manager would turn this team around. Some thought firing Baylor midseason would salvage 2002, and it didn't.

Let's go back to game 5 of the NLDS of 2001, shall we? A certain manager in the bottom of the ninth, at home, in a tie game with one out and runners at first and third with Womack at the plate called for a suicide squeeze. Of course, Womack missed it and the home team lost the potential winning run in the rundown, but the runner at first went to second. Manager was saved from being criticized and from being called a buffoon only because Womack singled with two outs. Of course, no one talks about that call because they ended up winning the World Series. Johnson and Schilling led that team to the World Series, not Brenly.

I was using sarcasm to kind of poke fun at the fact that some use Baker's winning percentage in defense of him.

Hope you were being a little sarcastic because Vince Lombardi couldn't even win with the young club the Marlins have right now. Mark my words, Girardi will be a very solid manager when it's all said and done.
