It was a hilarious play and it was brought up in "Baseball Discussions." I don't see what the beef is.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that people have a problem with this thread. No one is starting threads everyday documenting when Corey struggles. But this is simply an incredibly stupid play by Corey Patterson and it's worth mentioning.

What if the subject in question was Moises? Would anyone be as defensive?

I totally bought into the Corey Patterson madness way back when, too. He was going to be something special----wow.

Now lookitt. Lordy.

Not that we can talk. We basically exchanged CPatt for Jones. Two peas in a pod if you ask me.

CPatt is hitting a lot better than Jones right now.

So is my grandmother.

What's more ridiculous? Corey making a baserunning blunder or a whole team scoring 4 runs since last Saturday without any days off? And in that span, how many pitchers have or had ERA's over 5.00 entering those games?

I really want Corey to do well, but I just saw him strikeout on an eye high fastball from Schilling.

Since some like to follow former Cubs, how's Paul Bako? I watch some Royals games, but turn the channel every time Bako is up. Why do crappy hitters insist on swinging at the first pitch?

I'll trump that Dusty, the Genius, has got Bynum in LF tonight in place of Murton and Neifi at SS in place of Cedeno.

So, if a team is scoring 0 runs, what does it matter who starts and where?

You've got a good point, how about a card board cutout of Derek Lee? Its got a better chance of getting on base than most of the Cubs tonight.

Do you think there aren't enough threads complaining about the offense? I'm not sure why the two subjects must be mutually exclusive.

It was a funny play, no big deal.

If you don't like the thread feel free not to participate, but I don't see the point of hijacking it by bringing up the Cubs offensive struggles or Pierre getting picked off second on a bad call.

Admittedly, I haven't seen the play that Corey was gunned down. And I probably was a bit overdefensive of Corey, but this is not the first thread on Corey documenting his failures while he's no longer a Cub.

Corey is a bit of a sore subject with me. I really did hope he was going to be the all star CFer I thought he could be. For whatever reason he was unsuccessful in Chicago, I still hope he turns it around and has a great career.

What I don't understand on that play is why he didn't just tag up and then go - he was like 4 feet from first and could have made it back and still gotten to second.

I think deep down we all want Corey to succeed. However, it's almost refreshing to many to see that he did not leave and suddenly begin to enjoy the success we all thought he would have here. I'll dog on Corey all day long for making stupid plays, but by the same token, I'll dog Lee or Aramis or Ronny or Murton if they did the same. I still like Corey. No harm, no foul.

Did he lose track of whether the guy caught the ball?

yea, wilkerson caught the ball and then crashed hard into the wall. corey could have tagged and gone to second but instead he waffled around a few feet from first and then eventually ran to second without tagging. had he gone back and tagged he could have made second easily. not sure why he couldn't see the out call or if the ump didn't make a clear call or what. that very possibly wasn't his fault.

Um, obviously the latter. What does that have to do with anything though? It's a baseball message board... I thought baseball discussions were encouraged.

Look, I'm assuming that you're a big Corey fan. And that's fine. I'm not a Corey hater by any means, but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to laugh when he does something stupid like he did in the play that we're talking about. I used to get all defensive and whatnot when people would slam Sammy, because I am and was a big Sammy fan. So I think I know why you're against this thread.

The play (again, I'm not sure if you saw it) was beyond ridiculous. I'm sure fans of every team were talking about it the next morning.

Okay, I was overdefensive of Corey. Drop it already! I did.
