Wilkerson leaves game after crashing into wall

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Texas Rangers left fielder Brad Wilkerson left Thursday night's game against Baltimore with a mild concussion after catching a flyball and then crashing hard into the wall.

Wilkerson's catch started a strange inning-ending double play in the fifth. Drew Meyer pinch hit for Wilkerson in the bottom of the inning.

Nick Markakis hit the ball that Wilkerson tracked down. He slammed so hard into the wall that he knocked a panel out of the out-of-town scoreboard. While Wilkerson sat dazed on the warning track, Corey Patterson never tagged up from first base.

Wilkerson managed to throw the ball a few seconds later, getting it to second baseman Mark DeRosa. Patterson was tagged when he stopped a couple of steps shy of second base after wandering between the bases while Wilkerson was down.

That was hilarious and embarrassing at the same time. Corey would take two steps towards first base, then two towards second, then two back towards first. For a total of 19 seconds, he just basically hung out in between first and second. What a stupid play.

I managed to miss second base by about ten feet once while trying to stretch a similar situation into a triple. I was staring at the outfielder so hard that I completely lost track of where I was. I stood on third and stared at the ground, hoping no one would notice. No such luck. Of course, I was maybe 13...I don't know what CPatt's excuse is.

Let me get this straight. Our current CFer gets picked off base and Baltimore's CFer gets picked off base and a thread is started about the Baltimore CFer.

I don't get it.

Dude you could totally tell by Corey's body language that he didn't even care.

Pierre cares when he gets picked off. He said so in the paper this morning.

The difference is that Corey still doesn't understand what happened, and Pierre is kicking himself because he knows better.

That's cuz of his bad attitude and cuz he can't be coached.

How do you know Corey isn't "kicking himself"?

Nevermind, it's not worth argueing over again.

Too much muscle in the legs. He lost some flexibility.

another difference...Pierre's play was dumb, but he was safe. he was only picked off because the umpire apparently had an overwhelming urge to raise his right arm.

I saw that play and when Corey was within a few feet of the first base bag, I was wondering why the first base coach didn't yell to tell him to tag up.

Corey didn't get picked off. He had absolutely no clue what was going on and 19 seconds after the ball was caught in the outfield, he was tagged while standing two feet from second base.

Did you see the play? It was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

The point is Corey is no longer a Cub. He's no longer our problem. Pierre is our problem. Interestingly enough, Corey is hitting .295 and scoring runs at a pretty healthy clip. Yet, it's when he does something wrong people like to start threads about him. Corey's strike out rate is also only 1 per 6 plate appearances. But, I'm not going to start a thread about how well he's making contact. Just as I would expect that people wouldn't start a thread about him each time he does something that proves the anti Corey crowds theories.

if corey was with the cubs he'd be hitting .095. dude has something wrong in his head. when he gets booed a few times in baltimore, that average will drop.

looks like another anti-corey crowd vs. love every cub prospect crowd battle. ;)

I'm pretty sure this thread would've been made regardless of who made the baserunning blunder of the year.

This play was flat out comical, no matter who it was. It just makes it funnier that it's Corey.

I was merely pointing out that one possibility of why there was no thread complaining about Pierre's play is the umpire blew the call.

you guys are reading things into my post that simply are not there.
