Is Rich Hill a AAAA pitcher? Once again, he tore up the minor leagues, gets a chance and bombs, all this vs a not so good lineup.

im willing to bet its bad management, seriously larry rothschild dosent seem like the best choice for this group

couldve tried to get Mazzone, the best in the game but hendry was loyal to a subpar pitching coach

Maddux sucked his first year in the majors. So did a lot of future good pitchers. Hill has been up and down, up and down. The same way with Mitre and a few others. Heck, Dusty couldn't decide who to throw in the bullpen in Z or Cruze.

It is way too early to tell on Hill. The Cubs have to give him at least 6 or 7 consecutive starts to see if he can do it. I wouldn't even look at the W/L record. I'd look at ks, bb, k/bb, GB:FB and all sorts of "unimportant" numbers to judge Hill by.

They seem to do this with all rookies, "produce now are get out" while the give the "proven vet" much more time.

If it's still this bad when June rolls around, then I think it will be time to just let the young guys play and to hell with the race. Right now I'm still holding out a little hope, but the problem is our young guys will need to pull along the deadweight on this roster until the big 3 get back. That's not real comforting.

How much exposure has Hill had to Rothschild? The three days he was up here, Larry screwed him up? Come on. Seriously, give me a break.

The guy has ONE major league pitch. A great hook. Other than that his pitches are crap. His fastball sucks. Until he develops a second dominant pitch, he will be a AAAA pitcher. You can't win with one major league pitch. I wish we would have traded him in the past week without bringing him up. His AAAA line could have netted us something - but showcasing his deficiencies will not help in our bargaining power.

Remember when Hendry refused to trade Hill at the deadline last year, when all the rumblings we heard were that Rich Hill was one of the hottest prospects in the game.

I personally don't think Hill has what it takes. Granted, he couldn't throw his curveball w/ accuracy last night but his fastball is very hittable. Does he even use any other pitches besides the fastball and curve?

Actually, the Cruz vs. Zambrano issue was back when Baylor was still manager (2002). When Dusty took over in 2003, Zambrano was firmly in the rotation.

yet another example of the closer a guy gets to Wrigley Field, the more he refuses to throw strikes?

Hill only walked 2 guys last night.

That's because he went from Iowa to Arizona. He got much further away from Wrigley.

Thanks for the correction. Could you imagine what like would be like without Z?

Hill sucks. NO pitcher is going to be successful by throwing a fastball and a curveball. I don't care how good his AAA numbers are... he hasn't done anything at the ML level to show that he might be a good major league pitcher.

I've never thought much of Hill.

That's not true at all. If he had a GOOD fastball and could locate, he'd be fine. But he has a crappy one.

Bad management? How about he's a 1 pitch pitcher? If you say he screwed up Hill then you have to say he's worked wonders with Sean Marshall right?

Everyone:

It is far too early to say whether Hill is going to be a success or not. Some guys are great initially and can't sustain it. Some guys have a rough start and then dominate. Some guys are awful to begin with and never improve.

I don't think Hill has had enough of a chance to adjust to major league hitters yet to say anything about his ability to succeed.

While what you say is true in theory, a guy with one major league pitch isn't gonna succeed, at least not as a starter for long. His fastball is average at best.

Are you talking about velocity or location?

It's too early to write him off entirely, I agree. However, I think it's legitimate to have some concerns based on his big league performances.

Spot on. Unfortunately I don't think he EVER will if he stays on this team.
