Good move by Dusty. Cubs have 17 in a row and after Rusch's masterful performance, Marshall can eat a couple of innings to help the ole pen out.

if mabry was still in a cardinal uniform he would have come up big in both situations, i guarantee

You mean like last year when he was an offensive wasteland?

not so much in general as if he was just playing against the cubs

I'm thankful Mayberry struck out. They weren't going to score even if he got on. Now Marshall gets to pitch another inning and the line-up flips over. Edited by ToupeeOnFire

The lead runner is out, the umps are just to to call anything for the cubs.

FWIW, the Buc announcers speculated the ump was thinking that because he fielded the ball in the basepath, Wilson had to go around him.

They looked up the rule here and justified this.

He had already fielded it and was going to apply the tag, therefore, he was out. I hope we beat up on Santos next inning

He was heading wide before he fielded it. Check the replay again.

Still, the call could have gone either way.

*Cough*HOMER*Cough* :D

Also, if Aram's effort at the tag wasn't so lazy, the ump would have called him out.

Still, as someone else pointed out (I forget who), you ALWAYS get the lead runner.

He did get the lead runner. The ump just didn't call him out.

Some here would have had Aramis chase Wilson into left field to apply the tag.

I don't like this. Hindsight nothwithstanding, but if Marshall gives up a run in the next inning it is a bad call IMO.

No, its a good call. Outside of one bad call that lead to a run that shouldn't of been, he has been lights out. I doubt they get a baserunner here.

Any ideas why Rusch has sucked so bad this year?

Howry warming up, I'm guessing Marshall will get pinched here if Mabry gets out.

No, if he gets out, Marshall will probably be allowed to hit, if he gets on, then Marshall will be pinch hit for.

I'd think if he gets on, Marshall bunts him over.

And waste an out, making it two outs and needing a hit to get him in? that doesn't work.

I'm not saying that I would do that but the Cubs would.

Because he is Glendon Rusch. He has had 2 acceptable seasons as a starter, 2000 with the Mets and 2004 with the Cubs.

Marshall gave that a ride.

Did anyone else think that was outta there for a few seconds?

:(

I did!

It is not a good call if Marshall goes out and gives up a run. The Cubs don't need to eat two innings here, they need to get a win.

Is this one of those times Dusty letss the pitcher hit and then still changes pitchers?

I hate it when he does that.

It's amazing how Marshall and Maddux are not only the only pitchers (save Demp) worth a damn on this team, but there the only ones (save Murt) that can work a pitcher.

This should be Santos's last inning. It's a good thing the Pirates bullpen sucks big time.

although the Cubs offense sucks big time as well.

who did you want them to pinch hit with?

Well, number one, it would waste a pinch "hitter" (I use that term loosely with our bench, only Hairston do I think could come through), and it would burn a pitcher.

And Marshall has been pretty much cruising, there's 4 bad hitters coming up, and he's only at 75 pitches. I like the move, he's as good a bet as any to put up a good inning.

He's been pitching drunk?

He's paying attention to hot-dog vendors instead of focusing on the batters?
