Was at todays game.Lee and Pierre were talking by the Cub dugout.Dontrelle walked up.They were talking and laughing together. Then Cabrera joined them.More of the same. I was hoping Hendry was around to see it. Found out later he was nearby.Wish he could get at least one of them, preferably both.

Neither one of them impress me as a player who would do well as a Cub - certainly not to justify the expense.

But if Hendry had to spend too much money on a FORMER Marlin, I wish he had opened the checkbook wide for Luis Castillo. I don't think the Cubs would have needed Pierre in that case (if they do now), and for the amount Hendry overpaid for Pierre and that puzzling JJ signing, getting Castillo instead would have been well worth the extra dough. The biggest problem would be how to kick Neifury to the curb - $2 mil for 2 years was one heck of an insurance policy for a Cub middle IF.

JMO. I know, no way in H-E-double hockey stix the Cubs are able to trade for him... Actually, that's one deal I might consider giving the Twinkies a second shot at Prior for.

How many prospects actually make it?If you have a chance to get one of them, take it.

They wouldn't come for nothing but prospects. They would require major league talent who is cheap. I'm not even sure the Cubs could make the trade with them unless they did something like ship Zambrano along with 20M + prospects.

Thats what they got for Beckett and Pierre.

And Willis and Cabrera are worth far more than them.

I would give Florida our entire Peoria roster.

I second that. I'd also give them Boise. Just promote the good players to Daytona first :D

It's hard to guage what it would take to get them. When they put them up, there will be plenty of offers from many teams, the best offer will win, obviously. But how many teams are either capable of giving them what they want without crippling their farm system, or are willing to cripple their system to give them what they want? I can't see both of them going to the same team, it's just not going to happen.

On a side note, I don't think I'd trade for Cabrera. That guy's gotten fat over the last year or so. If he's not taking care of himself, like Griffey didn't when he was that age, well, you see where I'm going. I fear he won't be healthy enough in a few years to justify the cost. Willis, on the other hand...if we can't trade for him, we need to encourage his best friend JP to keep in tough with him for when he becomes FA eligible :)

That'd be insane...Castillo isn't worth anymore than what we paid for Pierre.

You'd trade Prior for Castillo?

Castillo had a much better 2005 than Pierre, with a .391 OBP and a.765 OPS, and at least the last few years sure seems like a better leadoff option than SlapNasty.

That said, we already have Walker at second/first, and trading Prior for Castillo is a terrible, awful, no-good, very bad idea.

I would give them the entire farm -- let them go to town picking whomever they want.

No player, and I repeat NO player is worth trading your entire farm for, literally or figureatively.

The Cubs version is h-e-double toothpicks (Dusty reference). :D

I'd rather have Willis than Cabrera. Cabrera has a bad attitude and has put on weight. As soon as his contract is up, he'll be more expensive than Pujols.

Willis is a young, dominating left handed pitcher, with a good team attitude.

Were Lee and Pierre doing a little recruiting?

I'll go on record as saying when Willis or Cabrera DO get traded, it will be for a good package, but nothing as radical as many think.

The fact is, no team is going to give up half their farm system for either of these guys.

The Marlins aren't going to get a perfect scenario. They will either take some salary back or settle for a couple of good prospects.

EPatt, Harvey and Guzman would get their attention for Cabrera.

Harvey, Guzman and Hill would do the same for Willis.

I bet the package that gets these guys will look awfully similar.

For the record, I would do the deal for Cabrera. Willis has had his best season, imo.

The last time I checked Luis Castillo is a second baseman. Didn't we have a debate over who should play second base in the offseason? What good would it do us to bring Castillo in? To have 2B be even more crowded? We aren't trading Walker that's for sure. Then when Lee comes back, somebody would have to go to the bench. All around bad idea.

They're both very young and mvp/Cy Young type players. If your serious about winning and you have the resources, you have to try for at least one of them.Either player makes your team better for years.
