I just hope Weiters falls the three, but my fear is that Weiters and Price go one and two, leaving the Cubs to choose between Brackman, Savery, and Burgess.

Same here.

Beyond Price and Weiters, everybody has too much risk for me...

Is there a good chance at least one of them falls to us?

Price is obviously the cream of the pitching crop. He'll almost definately be the first pitcher picked, and probably go #1 overall. Beyond that, it's whether the next team wants pitching or hitting... it'll be 50/50 between Brackman and Weiters, most likely.

Has anyone checked out this Danny Payne guy? He's a junior CF hitting .404 with 25 walks to 8 strikeouts through 57 at bats, good for a .583 on base. Georgia Tech can turn out a hitter.

Maybe we can get him with our second rounder...

Early draft lists at Perfect Game had him listed about 150th overall before the season started.

I Thought I remembered hearing that he would porbably go first round, but if he slips we should probably pick him up with our sandwhich pick.

Is it a fact now that we'll not be at 31?

Edt: Take that back, Julio Borbon from Tennessee is the guy I was thinking about, not Payne. I'm not sure where Payne's projected.

Quick question:

How do Weiters numbers stack up against Alex Gordons from last year?

SOPH: 77/211, .365/.493/.754/1.247, 18 HR, 47 BB, 34 K

JR: 94/253, .372/.518/.715/1.233, 19 HR, 63 BB, 38 K

BA had Payne at #36 in their top 100 college prospects.

Gordon was in the minors last year so you really can't compare their stats, but I will.

Alex Gordon:

2006 (minors)- .325/.427/.588/1.015 29HR 101RBI 113/72 K/BB

2005 (NCAA)- .372/.518/.760/1.278 19HR 66RBI 38/63 K/BB

Weiters:

2006 (NCAA)- .355/.480/.606/1.086 15HR 71RBI 39/56 K/BB

2005 (NCAA)- .366/.470.581/1.051 10HR 68RBI 32/45 K/BB

would that put him in 2nd round range for the cubs?

Borbon's injury may make him slip into the 2nd or even 3rd round. Both he and Arencibia have been injured, causing Tennessee to struggle badly, and likely causing a drop for all 3 of UT's 1st round hopefuls (Adkins, Borbon, and Arencibia)

Past the sandwich pick for sure, since it seems like the HS class is stronger.

Adkins has been great so far this season plus he's a lefty, I don't see why he'd drop.

Adkins really struggled last season, but I doubt he falls out of the first or supplemental round - thats what? 61 picks this year or something ridiculous.

anyways Im thinking Brackman will be #1 on the Cubs board.

Well given the parallels between Andrew Brackman and Jeff Samardzija (i think they are essentially the same person), it seems to me like the writing is on the wall. Wilken had Samardzija #1 on his board last season, ahead of Andrew Miller who is comparable to David Price. There's no one comparable to Matt Wieters, but he did select Jeff Neimann ahead of Stephen Drew and Josh Fields in 2004, not that those are great comps.

I'm thinking it wont matter who is #1 on the Cubs' board.

I think the odds of somebody outside the group of Price, Brackman, and Weiters going in the first two picks is virtually nil. Basically, it comes down to who is #1 on KC's board, as I feel very confident TB will take Price with #1.
