I've been telling you guys we're taking Burgess. He's from Tampa Florida and is a toolsy OF with a lot of power who got ripped to pieces in the Aflac game by breaking pitches.

Please let Wilken find a worthwhile pick. Seasons like 2006 are only good for 2 things, creating an overhaul of the decision makers and providing an opportunity to draft top talent. They had a partial overhaul, but still need a massive talent intake to make up for Hendry staying onboard.

david price didnt pitch yesterday due to an illness. the vandy game today was postponed. dunno if hell start tomorrow in their doubleheader

andrew brackman is pitching as we speak, well hes supposed to be....

Matt Wieters hit his second homer of the season last night, he went 1 for 4 with a walk against Illi-Chicago.

5 ip, 3 h, 2 bb, 0 r, 8 k on 80 pitches for Brackman

Not too shabby.

Just wondering, is there any site in particular you use to see their statlines?

I check out the cstv sites.

Vanderbilt's doubleheader was rained out today, they'll try to play two tomorrow. Not sure if Price will start one of those.

David told me he is indeed starting one of the games today...if they play at all. There was basically a blizzard going on down there last night.

Vandy won the 1st game (Price didn't pitch), so he should be going in the next one then (4 o'clock I think). And damn, Pedro Alvarez was 3/4 with 2 homers in the first game win, 11-1.

Weiters (DH'ing) went 2-4 with a single, double, and sac fly (No K's or walks), and got the save.

but he did, and it's not really fair

thus far

18 BF, 10 K

5 IP, 0 BB, 2 H, 1 HBP, 1 ER

To be fair, it's Ohio not exactly a baseball juggernaught and well Vandy can't score it's 1-1.

Vandy takes the lead 3-1, so they might decide to pull Price now (though I don't know how many pitches he's thrown). Hell of a game though. Especially the 0 BB part.

Edit: Price into the 7th...

ground out then gave up a double

That said, it's still early in the season AND it's 38 degrees with a wind chill below freezing. Not optimal pitching conditions.

Price last 2 batters into the 7th, giving up a 1-out double and getting yanked.

6.1 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 12 K/0 BB, 1 HBP - the runner at second is his responsibility.

Definitely pitching.

Price's final line is in the previous post, the inherited runner didn't score.

Price overall: 12 IP, 2 GS, 4 ER, 9 H, 18 K/ 3 BB, 2 HBP, 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .214 BAA

Scherzer? Eww, I hope not.

Kurt (Chicago, IL): Does Max Scherzer go back into the draft? If so do the Cubs look at him at 3?

Jim Callis: (2:10 PM ET ) I still think he signs with the Diamondbacks, though our recent story at baseballamerica.com has Scott Boras hinting that Scherzer should be paid as one of the top two pitching prospects in the 2006 draft, and I can't see that happening. If he re-enters the draft, I don't see him going as high as No. 3, but I also didn't see Luke Hochevar going No. 1 last year.

Paul (KC): Regarding Scherzer, do you think Boras sees 20 innings in indy ball as giving scouts a better indication of what they're getting? If he goes that route and pitches like Hochever did last year, why wouldn't he be considered no. 1?

Jim Callis: (2:18 PM ET ) It would give them another look at him, but there were clubs last year that weren't going to take Scherzer because of his medical reports and there are clubs that won't take him because of the money involved. Maybe if in limited time he proves he's fully healthy and has knockout stuff, but I don't see him as ahead of guys like David Price, Matt Wieters or Andrew Brackman (the last two of whom will be advised by Boras this year).

I can dream:

Kevin (Iowa): Do you see the Cubs getting a chance to draft David Price with the 3rd pick?

Jim Callis: (2:26 PM ET ) I still think Price goes No. 1 to the Devil Rays if the draft were held today.

On the brightside, the D-Rays love RAW, PROJECTABLE high school guys. I could certainly see them going with Harvey based on their trackrecord (if they went pitcher).

And MS has just absurd stuff, wouldn't shock me if he found his way into the top 3, and Brackman will probably be higher than Price on somebody's board, meaning that Price does have a shot to fall to 3.

I can hope, Q. I can hope. :)

Doesn't sound like he projects to stay at C.

Jeff (KCMO): Chances Weiters plays catcher at the major league level?

Jim Callis: (2:57 PM ET ) There's some question on that, but I think the odds are pretty good that he will. Whoever takes him will try their best to make that work.

I don't know why you WOULDN'T try to keep Wieters at C. There are a couple of bigger catcdhers out there now (granted nothing as big as he is) but big enough. I think he could certainly handle it for a while. Maybe he has to move out after a few years, but that's about it. He'll play in the majors at C for at least his first few years IMO.
