I have to say that sitting out in the bleachers was absolutely painful for the firs seven innings. Crappy ball from the Cubs, and the bleacher faithful couldn't come up with anything better than "Hey Abercrombie. You suck! Hey Willingham! You suck!" It was embarrassing. 8th inning made up for it, though.

I gave up when it was still 3-0 in the 8th and headed home from work, heard on the radio that it was still 3-0 when I got to the grocery store. I get home and find out that they scored 6 in the 8th and won. Anyone have that inning on video?

So wait, you mean to tell me that a team was leading by a very convincing 3-0 margin in the 8th inning, only to have a complete collapse with 5 outs to go and blow the ballgame? Holy crap, sucks to be THAT team. Good thing it wasn't during a more important game like in the playoffs or something - i can only imagine how terrible that would be...

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

Way to hang in there tonight Cubs and pull out the victory. After a rough start, Z settled down and kept us in it. Great to see the walks leading up to the 6 run 8th. Also loved seeing Murt come through and JJ with the blast. Let's make it 3 in a row tomorrow...

I was quite pleased with how Z composed himself. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I'm beginning to get that magical Cubs feeling. Like the '98 season or the '03 season. This year seems to be shaping up to be one of those "overcoming the odds" scenarios. Already having 4 come from behind victories, the manager and players getting pumped up in April and the fans shaking Wrigley already. It feels like this team could go down as one of the most beloved since '98 or even '89.

This is starting to remind me of '89 more than any other year because they're getting it done playing a few younger guys and getting production from some no-names. Plus Zimmer really had the horseshoe that summer. Seemed like everything he tried worked. That was a fun team to watch.

In '89 Jerome Walton broke camp with the club as a rookie and hit lead-off hitter. Dwight Smith got called up about a month into the season and platooned in left with Lloyd Freakin' McClendon, Maddux was in about his third season, Grace was in his second or third. Third base was shared by Vance Law and Angel Salazar. Sutcliffe was in the rotation but I can't remember who the other three starters were.

Forgetting someone, Raw? A certain blue glove wearing closer? The Wild Thing? Mr. Mitchell Williams?

I meant to add closer and seperate Mitch from the rest of the pen.

HAHA. Lloyd McClendon. One of the best headlines I ever saw was a few years ago when I was visiting my grandparents in Minnesota. I picked up the sports section in the summer and one of the headlines read "McClendon Steals First Base." I'm thinking how on earth did somebody steal first base. He was managing Pittsburgh, got angry over a call and ripped the first base bag out from the ground and carried it away. It was awesome.
