With all this talk about the new Cubs offense (including with Lee), the Cubs are 24th in the league in runs scored. That's gotta change if we want to win more then 65 games this year.

Actually, I don't care. Win if you want to. If you don't it will only continue a 98 year tradition of losing....

98 years of enjoyed(well a few parts) yet fruitless baseball........

I'd prefer a win(regardless of how crummy they look while providing it).

Maddux needs to be on his game sunday. at minimum dont let albert beat you by himself.(i personally wouldn't show him a single fastball during any at bat, in fact i'd buzz him high and tight a couple times try to get him out of his comfort zone.....worth a try anyway)

In Maddux we trust........

Maddux is the bomb. He'll shut trhe Cards down with his surgical precision.

Yes, it's 3:15 in the morning, I'm in St. Louis and drunk. The Cubs HAVE TO win at least one game. I'm, tired of cards fans.

Excuse me, I have to go to pass out...

No Lee.
i really hope like hell you're not gonna say that for every game he is out, after 6or 7 starts i will begin to hunt you down

really though STOP!!

Did you know that Pujols has driven in almost 31% of all the Cardinals runs this season? They would be sunk without him.

Well, I'm dressed and ready for today's game. I'd like one win before I fly home.

I'll try to say good morning to Mr. Miles for everyone.

vance, i feel really bad for you. theres nothing worse than leaving busch in cub gear after a pathetic loss. you may have to do it 3 times in a weekend. hopefully today goes better.

Okay guys 2 1/2 hours until game time and we have GOT to win todays game behind Maddux, if for no other reason than to lift the spirits and out look of the players. Yes losing Lee was huge for this team no doubt about it, but you certainly need to get a win and prove you can win wihout him, the longer a team goes without a win after a key injury the more it effects the entire teams attitude. Wiining is contagious well so is losing and you don't ever want a team to get to the point they feel defeated before they even take the field.

So is herpes. And the Cubs couldn't handle a teamwide case of herpes right now.

I suggest Baker start Bynum, he bunt and run into Pujols breaking his wrist in 2 places. And if Bynum gets hurt too it's a bonus.

Okay so what does everyone predict the score of todays game to be, I'm going to go with Cubs 3, Cards 2, at least I'm praying we can get 3 runs today because if we do, I think we will this game.

Go CUBS !!

I don't wish injuries on any team but, I'd like to see the Cards minus Pujols, Mulder and Suppan (the Cub equivalent of Lee, Prior and Wood) with their weak bullpen, you're looking at 60-70 win team easy.

This just in...........

I just got a phone call from Busch Stadium from Garwilly & Vance the CUBS fan. They are hanging around the CUBS dugout, and trying to get Bruce Miles attention to confirm or deny..... that Angel Guzman has been spotted in the stadium with the team.

More details as they become available. If anybody else knows anything.... please let us know !!

And now..... back to your regularly scheduled Game Thread.

couple things if that is indeed the case. Why Guzman up and not Hill? Hill has been real impressive so far in Iowa. Guzman has been decent, but his last start was not too good as he gave up several homers.

Another thing...who would be sent down if Guzman is up? My guess would be Williams.

interesting stuff vance and garwilly. Thanks for finding this out before anyone else :)

Weird. Unless they want Guzman to pitch on normal rest and throw Monday, pushing Z and the rest of the rotation back a day, I don't see why it wouldn't be Hill. Angel isn't up to full speed yet.

And if it was in place of Marshall's scheduled Tuesday start, that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, either.

Just the offensive firepower we're needing! :D J/K

I'm glad to see Guzman getting an opportunity and I have to guess he'll replace Williams after his performance Friday night. Now if they'd just bring up Hill to replace Rusch.

OK..... here's your upate......

Garwilly and Vance report that they have spoken with Dusty Baker, who told them than Guzman is up, Jerome Williams is down. For the time being, Angel will be used out of the bullpen, and we will not have a 5th starter.

More updates as they become available.
