Nomar blowing out his groin as he attempts to run to 1st base.

Carlos Lee going spikes high on Todd Walker.

Sammy Sosa's boombox mysteriously yet spontaneously combusting.

Neifi Perez and his toothpick legs, healthy as a horse.

I don't get it.

I'm not so sure about it being mysterious.

Okay, I might be stretching it a bit to say mysteriously, but it's just another in a long line of freak accidents.

I suppose now you're going to tell me it wasn't an accident. :D

not marquis players, but Grudz and Agone missing time because of beanballs on the hand/wrist (and Agone's being called a foul ball no less).

Sosa getting pegged in the ear of his helmet and then standing an extra eight inches off the plate when he came back deserves mention.

Actually Db 11, while he did miss games because of that, I would consider that an every day tupe injury and not a freak injury because lots of guys get beaned each season.

Greenberg getting drilled in the head in his first AB would also deserve mention.

Mike Fyrie also suffered a broken arm on a comebacker in 2000

It was actually a broken bat that splintered and broke his arm, IIRC. I remember him pitching quite well before that, but I could be wrong.

He actually spells it "Fyhrie." What an odd spelling...

Well, at least nobody done something what Brain Griese did when he was in Denver. (Injured while tripping over his dog IIRC)

Can other teams compile lists like this for their players over the same time span?

I'm betting yes.

I'll bet there are, but I'll also be there aren't too many other contending teams that have been beset by so many injuries to key players in recent years. It's never Neifi or Wuertz or some one unimportant. It's Prior, Wood, Sosa, Ramirez, Lee, Borowski, Nomar...and usually many concurrently.

If you can find another recent team with similar circumstances, I challenge you to do so.

I think that definately helped derail his career. All a pitcher had to do was throw a curve on the outside part of the place and Sosa couldn't touch it.

Well, I'm sure the players involved accidentally drank some beer and accidentally took out some bats and accidentally went Office Space on the boombox. Definately an accident.

Definitely. Other than the possible roids, the biggest catalyst in his offensive explosion was that he learned to work the outer half and hit the opposite way. After the beaning, he was scared to death of the plate, and started flailing at outside pitches instead of stepping into and driving them.

It was a sad sight to see. Everybody knew he was doing it and he wouldn't change.

Don't forget Mike Remlinger vs the La-Z-Boy.

LOL. Forgot about that. Somehow I think that was manufactered though.

What about Dutch-Value and his string of grotesque injuries? Or Ben Grieve running into the ivy?

Bellhorn and Sosa colliding

Farnsworth kicking a baseball during batting practice and hurting his toe

Alf sliding on wet grass and straining some muscle (though most felt that was a beneficial turn of events). Then he returns and belly-bumps an ump and gets suspended.

Corey blowing out his ACL running over the 1B bag (was Sosa still out then?)

ETA: then Tom Goodwin playing CF and getting hurt (stealing a base?) the same day the Aramis - Kenny Lofton trade happened.

I really doubt it, especially when you take into account the relative importance of the players. In many cases these are key players the Cubs have lost. I can't think of many examples over the last four years of players getting injured the way Cubs' players have.

Compilations of injuries on other teams may not be as magnified due to stronger benches and/or farm systems that allow for them to withstand injuries to multiple key players.
