I would target Meinkeyechart from KC, and/or Tony Clark from AZ. The cost to get either shouldn't be awful.

I think Tony Clark might be a good idea, AZ. is playing Conor Jackson at 1B pretty much every day now, they told him before the season they werer going to try to get him as many at bats as possible and kind of platoon him with Jackson but Jackson has been so good that Tony's basicly just rotting on the bench. Tony is not Lee but he would be a better option than what we currently have and he shouldnt be that hard to get.

clark's contract is for 2 years. i don't want him.

How much per year? He really had a good year last year and would be a nice stop gap. Maybe the D-backs would eat some of the contract for a decent pitching prospect.

it's 2 years, 2 million, but it's still 2 years.

why is everyone assuming the cubs are going to make a deal? it's going to be neifi and 2b and walker at 1b (and a really, really bad offense).

Because Hendry has been known to make moves when we need help? Ramirez, Lofton, Simon, Karros, Nomar...ring any bells? I don't doubt that Hendry is going to make a deal. Plus, he doesn't make the lineups, so don't assume that he is content with Neifi starting at 2B every day. I have full faith in Hendry. It's the man wearing the #12 that I worry about, but if Hendry gives him better players than Neifi, I'm not that worried.

Hendry is deliberate and slow when it comes to trade - how long did it take to get a 3B in 03? A SS in 04 (even with Alex Gonzalez injured)? He didn't get a SS when Nomar got hurt last season.

The contract is $2 million TOTAL!

Like I said, it's clearly a deal that a player would take if he wants to stay in a certain city. I can't see him being traded..

I'd see what it would take to get Huff. But GM's won't be shedding any tears for the Cubs.

Isn't Huff hurt?

What about Ross Gload from the White Sox? Or inquire about Choi from the Red Sox?

I think Choi might be a decent idea. Hendry does have a working relationship with Boston and I can't imagine Choi will cost all that much.

So who gets called up from the minors?

Dope is hurt and Sing is not on the 40-man roster. Theriot or Pie come to mind. I hope it's not Felix.

If Lee is going on the 60 day, I'd call up Sing or Restovich. I know Sing is not exactly on fire right now, but maybe a call up will spark him.

I grasping a straws here.

Like in the spring of 2002 too?

Anybody else heard anything regarding Lee's injury other than what was reported on the SCORE or 1000? I don't hear either one of them, but I find it strange that they've reported something that I haven't seen on ESPN website nor cubs.com.

From the Trib:

Lee Could be out 2-3 months

Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee suffered two broken bones in his right wrist during Wednesday's collision with Rafael Furcal and is expected to be in a cast for up to six weeks.

Lee could miss the next two-three months with the injury, which came on a freak play during the seventh inning of Wednesday's 5-4 win in Los Angeles.

Thanks. I hadn't read that in the Trib earlier.

The key word is COULD, which means nothing has been confirmed yet. Maybe Sullivan is jumping the gun, here. Typical media scum.

You think he;d rather sit on the bench than play everyday for Chicago? I think your wrong.

my guess would be that walker moves to first and theriot gets called up to fill in whereever needed.

Cabrera, Cabrera, Cabrera

No chance it happens.

Not for Prior and Pie? I agree the Cubs don't have the stones to make the move though.

That's nothing. I'd take him in a heartbeat at that contract. I don't know that they're going to want to deal him though, we will definately have to overpay. I know they have Jackson, but it's not like they're going into sell mode this early.

They need to do something. I'm really disappointed that this happened to Lee. Someone said it earlier, just when the season looked like it would be exciting, this happened. It'll interesting to see how the team plays now out of the gate. Man, this sucks.

Think about it this way: if the Marlins are willing to move Cabrera, they are willing to move Dontrelle.

The reason they would move Dontrelle is because he's going to start making big bucks... something that can also be said for Prior.

It doesn't really make sense for the Marlins. You'd have to come up premium, young talent that will stay cheap for years to come.

Part of the reason Hendry didn't pick up a SS last season was that there were really none available that could be had at a decent price. There are a lot of bad hitting SS around the game and the ones that are good hitters weren't going to be traded anyway. I'm sure he will be aggressive in trying to pick someone up this time, but it is a bad time of year to try to make a deal.

If they do end up making a deal with the Red Sox, it would be more likely for J.T. Snow rather than Choi. That would not be an exciting move, but I can see Dusty lobbying to get Snow.

Why are you assuming the Cubs wont make a deal?

for one, because the cubs love neifi. also, they're not going to give up the farm for two months of someone like sweeney, who will then sit on the bench making millions of dollars. if someone like clark or c. wilson was available for fairly cheap, then maybe they'd do it.

this is why you get at least one power bat for your bench, and not a bunch of utility guys like macias, bynum, neifi, and hairston that can \:D/ play a lot of positions \:D/

people said that having a weak bench wasn't that big of a deal, but it is now.

Florida has more needs though. Pie is premium, young talent IMO. With all the big teams looking for pitching, imagine would Florida could get for Prior once he gets rolling? I think you add that to Pie and it would be a better package that they could get from anyone else for Cabrera.

and thank goodness for that. your team's not complete unless you have 18 middle infielders.
