Jones K's looking.

to the bottom of the 9th.

Sooner or later the Cubs are going to have to find another rightfielder.

Preferably sooner.

Bruce, how much easier is it when the team you're following is winning? Do the players and personnel give you more access when they are in a better mood?

Speaking of Barrett and Maddux, Barrett was on Rome Is Burning today and was asked about catching Maddux. Barrett said Maddux calls the game and that he has learned so much from Maddux over the last two years. Barrett admitted to making some bone-headed plays and said Maddux was helping him and had helped him more than anyone else become a better catcher.

if by sooner or later you mean 2009, then you're right.

Great line by Scully...

"He might as well bring chalk and a chalkboard out there with the way he's pitching."

Maddux is taking them to school.

Except for "Tad" and "Jack", I've really enjoyed listening to him. I don't know that I've ever heard him before.

what are you new?

IMO, Vin Scully is vastly overrated. Personal opinon I guess.

I don't really care for the one man booth.

I have to strongly disagree. I've watched many of his games on extra innings and mlb.tv and he's the best I've ever seen by far. I grew up with Harry, and he was fun, but Scully is the say-all-end-all. I learned more about the Cubs players in one Dodgers-Cubs broadcast listening to him then I did listening to Chip and Stoney all season long a couple years back. He's so knowledgeable about not only his team, but about every team out there.

Why? Just trade him with Rusch/Williams when we have eight starters. Either get a stud right fielder or bring up pie (summer).

I hope Maddux starts the 9th.

Dempster still gets the save even if he only gets one out right?

The tieing or winning run has to be on deck, I think.

Well, I don't live anywhere near LA, and I've never had MLB.TV before. Even if he does nationally televised games, I rarely get to see games on TV anyway.

he's vin sculley!!!ok wait, maybe its not so much you being new as it des me being old :x

Who was that one pitcher that got popped in the head by a screaming liner, that caused him to be bloodied up on his head?

Was that Steve Cartlon?

Nolan Ryan

No, that was Robin Ventura stupidly chraging the mound and getting sufficiently pummelled by Nolan.

Nolan Ryan took a Bo Jackson line drive to the face and continued to pitch. I'll find a picture of it.

Wow. That looks fun. Imagine looking at a pitcher who has blood on his face and his uniform and trying to focus on batting.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. One year to go until I hit the big five-oh. Good thing the camera caught me working and not eating a Dodger Dog.

Happy birthday, Bruce. Looks like the Cubs will give you a win and Maddux will give you a nice article to write.

stud! only way thats a better story is if ryan gives himself the stitches

Nolan Ryan doesn't need stitches, he can coagulate his blood and suture his skin through sheer will.

As far as I know, yeah.

That's only if the lead is more than 3 runs. 3 run or less lead and 1 out is a save.

I don't care how they do it. As long as whomever they get is better than Jones.

Good thing Dempster closed down a 4 run lead last night. I think this is his 8th appearance in 12 games. Dusty hasn't been able to kill his ineffective starters so he's murdering his closer. How many non-save appearances has Dempster made now?

I'm 29 and I've not heard him a whole heckuva lot. And I have to agree with whoever said they don't like the one man booth. I certainly respect Scully, but I'm not a big fan.
