Last night's game..3 Cubs and 4 pitches in the 9th=3 outs and game over. Dusty and crew continue to not play fundamentals at the plate.

that really irked me. I felt like last night was a game we coulda shoulda won

I missed the game last night. I Was out having dinner and I just heard that his morning on ESPN radio. That is just brutal! Murton and Cedeno can be excused because their kids, but Neifi should know better.

Neifi is what he is - a free swinger. Murton hit a bullet, but the 3B was guarding the line and robbed him of extra bases. Cedeno's AB stunk.

so neifi's at-bat was ok because he is what he is but cedeno's at-bat stunk? Nice double standard.

No. Neifi's AB was expected. Where did I say it was "ok?"

Was Murton's AB okay because he got robbed? And what did Cedeno and Neifi do in their AB's (besides get out of course).

IMO, it's fine to swing at the first couple pitches provided you make decent contact. Murton smoked that ball in fair ground on the second pitch he saw (an inside fastball no less). I'm not sure what more you can ask. That late in the game, you don't need to worry about wearing down the pitcher.

Murton hit a HR on the first pitch the other day. Was that a bad AB b/c he didn't take a few pitches?

Cedeno swung at the first pitch and poped out weakly to 2B. That was a great AB? Why is anyone defending that? ...oh, b/c it's Cedeno, one of our precious young uns.

Who cares about Neifi? He's not in the game b/c of his bat. A regular starter, like Murton and Cedeno have higher standards to live up to. I don't see how that is in any way unfair.

Cedeno popped out to the 2nd baseman, and Neifi hit a lazy fly ball to RF.

That's unacceptable. I understand Murton swinging because he made solid contact, but if you are going to swing at the first pitch, you can just hit weak popups.

So you are saying that it's okay for the Cubs to miss the playoffs every year because they are the Lovable Losers and they're expected to lose but if the Yankees miss the playoffs all hell should break loose because they are expected to make the playoffs?

Actually the plate discipline has been much better than last seasons. That was one of the rarer occurences last night IMO.

Wait...what?

He's saying he had higher expectations for Cedeno than Perez. We all know Perez is gonna stink up the joint, thats what he does.

Thats all. Its not "OK", but when you come to expect it, it hurts a little less.

The pitch Neifi swung at was definitely not a strike. Someone like Perez should be up there trying to force the new pitcher that just came into the ballgame to get the ball over the plate. Our overall baseball IQ, except for a select few players (Maddux and Lee come to mind right away) is very poor.

I know. Meat has low expectations for Perez. Cubs fans expect the team to lose so when it happens, it hurts less. Yankees fans have higher expectations and expect the team to win just like Meat has higher expectations for Cedeno. So when he does something wrong it hurts more.

Slightly OT:

when was the last 3 pitch inning, Cubs or otherwise? I tried to google it and nothing came up.

I believe the Cubs were playing the Braves last year and Smoltz needed just 3 pitches to get 3 outs.
