2003: Kerry Wood lead in pitches thrown. (I Believe)

2004: Kerry Wood injured.

2005: Wood injured.

2006: Wood injured.

Nearly the same goes for Prior.

Tony LaRussa definitely has his moments.

Care to elaborate? Are you referring to his tendency to want to "get his starters wins"?

I nominate Narron, because it's always too soon to pull your starters when you have the Cincy bullpen.

That and his tendency to bring in the bullpen during questionable situations where leaving the starter in is typically the best idea. He's not nearly as bad as some of the others listed, but a guy who uses four pitchers to get three outs in an inning deserves mention.

I'll also throw Phil Garner's name in the mix, especially given what just happened to Backe.

billy martin with the 1980 oakland a's. he pretty much destroyed all 5 starters' careers. they led the majors with 94 complete games (93 were by the starting 5).

That quote reminds me of when he pulled Carp in a game he didn't look sharp in last year after four innings and 60 pitches to preserve a long winning streak of his. That annoyed me.

Grantd Wood throws too many pitches, but it doesn't hurt that he has the mechanics of a little leaguer also.

114 pitches in 8 innings for Carp last night, a 1-0 loss. why do that in april? people here would be screaming for dustys head if he did that. if carp were to go down...

I'd also say LaRussa. If he gets a rookie pitcher who throws a great game, he'll ride his arm all season until if falls off. See: Bud Smith. If I wanted to take the time, I bet I could reel off about 5-6 other young promising pitchers that have had similar fates under LaRussa.

How did you leave out Wood's numbers in 1998 and the number of missed starts between 1999-2003?
