I brought this up in the other Maddux thread, but I figured I would make a new thread about it.

Which cap should Maddux wear when he gets elected into the Hall of Fame and does that depend on if he wins a World Series with the Cubs.

If he doesn't win with the Cubs I think he'll go in with a Braves hat. But if he wins one with the Cubs, that changes things completely.

I'd say Braves no matter what happens with the Cubs.

I definately think it would most likely be the Braves since he did have a majority of his good years there. But he did only win 1 WS with the Braves so winning one with Chicago could change his mind.

It's the Halls decision and not Maddux's.

I thought it was the players decision.

It used to be but not anymore. You can thank players like Wade Boggs for that.

Ok, well what should hat should he wear in the HOF?

Braves, no question about it.

I'd like to ask Dale Petroskey (President of the Hall) that sometime. I don't remember if anyone asked in our Q&A.

It breaks my heart that you are probably right.

Maddux will go as a Brave unless he keeps pitching like this for 6 1/2 more months and single-handedly takes the Cubs to the Series title, and even that may not be enough.

I'm not sure what Mad Dog would decide if it was up to him, but Boggs wanting to go in as a Devil Ray kind of ruined that.

Yeah. Even if he stays with the Cubs for the next two years, and we win a World Series each year, I think he'd still go in as a Brave.

Thanks a lot Wade Boggs.

My guess is he would be a Brave and that's really how it should be. He won 3 of his 4 Cy Young Awards as a Brave as well as his only World Series appearance.

Even if he won the Cy Young and a WS this year, I don't see his Cubs career overtaking what he did as a Brave.

To me, this is one that could go either way, he did spend about half of his career at each. If he were to win a World Series with us this year, that really shakes things up.

Honestly, I hope they listen to what he's feeling, and put him in with that hat...

Maddux defined his career with the Braves. He'll wear a Braves hat unless he is part of something very special as a Cub this year or next.

Things could change, let's hope they do.

My guess is he'd want to go in as a Brave, anyway. i have no other reason to think that, other than he spent the prime years of his career there, had a lot of success, and probably has a ton of fond memories.

If Maddux helped the Cubs win the World Series, that would be historic. Player starts career with one team, leaves, then comes back and helps his original team win a World Series. I'm wondering if a Cubs World Series outweighs all of his great years with the Braves.

If the Cubs don't win the Series then he will definately go in as a Brave. Let's just hope we need to have that debate in a few months.

Say what you want about Jim Hendry, but I have little doubt that had he been general manager back in 1992, Maddux would never have been an Atlanta Brave. Thank you Larry Himes.

According to a book about the Cubs (I believe it was The Million to One Team) the real culprit was the Trib exec in charge of the Cubs at the time (I think it was Stanton Cook, but I'm not sure). Apparently Himes requested more money from the Trib to re-sign Maddux, but the Trib turned him down.

Didn't the Cubs offer more money than the Braves but at that point Maddux was just fed up with Cub's front office?
