On the issue of realignment, here is my new idea. If the Marlins move to St. Antonio, how about setting up the leagues like this:

AL West: OAK, LAA, SEA, TEX, *SA (Marlins)

AL Central: CWS, MIN, CLE, KC, DET

AL East: NYY, BOS, BAL, TOR, TB (until they get moved)

NL West: *HOU, LA, SF, SD, ARI

NL Central: MIL, CHC, STL, *COL, CIN

NL East: NYM, PHI, PIT, WAS, ATL

* the three changes would be the Marlins to the AL West, the Astros to the NL west and the Rockies to the NL Central.

I figure the Astros would want to be in the West rather than the Central because...

With 15 teams in each league, scheduling would have to change. Each team would play:

-30 games against their Interleague "Division" (so the NL Central only plays the AL Central... a home and home against each team in the division in the other league)

-60 games against non-divisional teams in your own league. Home and home v.s. everybody in the NL West and NL East

-72 games against divisional rivals... that comes out to 18 games v.s. every team.

This way the Astros, being in the West, would be able to play the Rangers and Marlins during their Interleague Series'.

My only concern is, with 15 teams in each league, there would have to be an Interleague matchup during every series, is there a way to do this? What do you guys think?

Well, I would like the Cubs to play the Rockies more often in place of the Astros, but I think your AL West is way too competitive. One or two playoff quality teams will get squeezed out every year.

:?

It is the current AL West, plus the worst team in the league.

Well its the same thing now plus the Marlins. Doesn't seem overly "competitive" to me.

Personally, I'd prefer if the Marlins go to SA, to be in the NL... only so I don't have to drive 3 hrs to Houston to see the Cubs... but that's just me.

Well, I look at the Marlins as a team that will compete for the W.S. every 3 or 4 years if they continue with their win and dump strategy. Oakland and Anahiem are in contention every year and Seattle and Texas are on the rise and have been playoff teams in the past. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it would easily be the division with the most wins outside their division every year.

You can't worry about competitive balance when realigning unless you plan on realigning every 5 years to update according to new ownership, population shift, marketing shifts, etc.

Nobody gets that 15+15 doesn't work.

If the Marlins move to SA they'll stay in the East. I mean, how long were the Braves in the West? Ideally, they'll just move up the coast to Norfolk, which I think could support its first pro team well.

I'd get rid of Interleague and the DH.

There is no reason as to why both leagues need to have the same number of teams.

And why put more teams in the central time zone (houston, texas, san antonio) into the west division? You realize that one of the biggest problems for the texas rangers is that their road division games don't start until 9 pm? Really a great way to build up the young fanbase

Keep the crosstown/regional series, but do we really need Cubs vs. Mariners?

Agreed. Both leagues need to have an even number of teams (to avoid interleague play all season long), but it doesn't have to be the same number in both leagues.

Thirded.

Agreed...or is that Foured or Fourthed.....plus I would require each team to have one day/night doubleheader per year.......please make a doubleheader mandatory.........
