I was reading an espn about an ad the Cavs owner took out trying to lure King James to stay a Cav. Is he a free agent this year? Aren't the Bulls 20 million under the cap? With the amount of talent they have already plus a number 2 pick and the chance to swap picks again with what will be a terrible team again next year for the Knicks the Bulls should be able to take that next step in a hurry.

I believe James is a RFA after next season, but it would be completely worthless to make him an offer since A, he wouldn't sign one (wouldn't be max dollars), and there's no chance in hell Cleveland wouldn't match it.

In 08, he should be an UFA, and he has some weird endorsement clauses that kick in if he goes to New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles. While it would be ideal to think he'd come to Chicago, we'd be hard pressed to be enough under the cap to make him an offer. We'd have to rid of Tyson and essentially say bye to some of our current core to have a chance of landing him. I think the odds are pretty remote. A realistic scenario is the Nets moving to Brooklyn with part owner Jay-Z, who apparently is very tight with James. Vince Carter is an unrestricted Free Agent after next season and could be let go with the hopes of landing James as the ultimate Free Agent Prize. I don't think its too far fetched. Granted, James could make more "salary" with the Nets, but his endorsements skyrocket if he makes it to one of the "big three" cities. And the Knicks sure as hell ain't gonna have the cap room.

I have no problem trading Tyson Chandler to clear the cap room when the time comes if it gave us a shot at landing James.

If only it were that simple... We'd have Hinrich up for UFA at the same time, and he'd likely be signed to an expensive deal before hand. Same with Noc, and Gordon and Deng may get RFA offers that the Bulls may have to match. If they wanna keep the nucleus they have, I don't see many scenarios in which they have room for James.

Though my proposed Rose and Frye for Gordon and Tyson trade (with the necessary cap throw ins, I know I know...) could help that out a bit ;)

I think worst case scenario is that Thomas ends up being the next Eddie Robinson.

Thomas is a hard worker by all reports. I can't see that happening at all.

I meant a high flyer who can dunk and dazzle but can't create his own shot. Thomas is already a better defender than Robinson ever was

Stromile Swift would probably be the better comparison and he's from LSU to boot.

I'm not a Bulls fan, but I think if Tyrus Thomas is there he's got to be the pick. They can have a poor (and young) man's version of Nash/Marion with Hinrich/Thomas. Definitely some differences, but there are also some similarities.

I think Brandon Roy is going to be an impact guy early on and the upside is a little higher than some think. He would have been a great pick for them if they were a little lower, but he would probably be a reach at 2 and especially if Thomas is on the board.

Roy will end up being one of the three best players in the draft and will probably have the best or one of the best rookie campaigns amongst this bunch.

Is Ben Wallace a free agent after this year? It was mentioned yesterday on ESPN radio, but I was interested in confirming his contract status....

...Ben's fro would look great in Chicago. Draft Roy with the first #1 pick and roll the dice with the second #1.

FYI: ESPN.com (via the Akron Journal) is reporting that Ilgauskas might be available. I don't think they would trade within the division, but I'd gladly have him. I don't know what we have that they'd like. Perhaps Duhon and The Chan-Man?

I could live with Aldridge and Cedric Simmons (whose potential is really high). We'd still need a big two guard, but that could be fantastic for our front line.

Anyone familiar with how the BYC figure is affected following July 1st? I'm trying to figure out if my beloved Tyson and Gordo for Frye and Rose deal would go through. Any info would be appreciated!

Ben is a free agent and the Bulls are the leading contender to get him if Detroit doesn't re-sign him (which I think is likely).

Tim Legler apparently said that Detroit will not re-sign Big Ben. Take it for what it's worth I suppose...

Buyer beware on Big Ben. He'll be 32 at the start of next year and he hasn't played very well these playoffs. I could see his contract turning into an albatross in two, three years.

Agreed - he'll want at least three years, and his game is based largely on his athleticism. Danger, Will Robinson!

Still, its very tempting...

playoffs, shmlayoffs. I'll take the risk on a multiple Defensive Player of the Year.

I suspect it would take a 5-year deal at close to the maximum for the Bulls to entice him away from the Pistons.

Risk, shmisk, right? I'm sure he'll be every bit as dominant at 35, 36, 37 - just like Antonio Davis.

how old was Rodman from 96-98?

Wallace is shooting 22% from the FT line in these playoffs. I mean, how can you keep him on the floor if you have a lead at the end of the game?

Anyone have more info regarding the Cavs trading Z? Why they would move him, what they want/could expect in return?

The exception that proves the rule?

just sayin...

It's already a good defensive team, so Wallace wouldn't need to shoulder the load. On the other hand, what the Bulls need is a big man who can score, and that's not wallace

Wallace is the best rebounder since Rodman, so I'd take a shot on him being another exception.

So you're saying the Knicks are interested?

Definitely in two to three years.
