Oh he's like the vast majority of ALL baseball fans. He just wants his team to win. Really.....isnt that what we all want? At this point I dont care how they do it....or how "informed" anyone is or is not....I just want the Cubs to win.......for the love of God......just let the Cubs win.....for a change.

What does Ron Santo have to do with the Cubs winning? Of course I want the Cubs to win. I'd also like to be able to listen to a broadcast and find out how they won -- not listen to him read faxes from 87-year-old women and talk about a volleyball court in his dead buddy's backyard.

If they won....they scored more runs than the other team. In this day of 24 hours sports channels.....internet....non-stop media.....there are plenty of ways to find out the details....if you are really interested. You were bashing Santo for being a representation of Cub fans...."silly..misinformed...rah rah"....my point was....MOST baseball fans are silly and rah rah. Baseball isnt that important....and people just want thier team to win. Santo is a fan...not an analyst...and he does not pretend to be. There are plenty of stuffed shirt broadcasters...around....and stats out the ying yang to keep you amused if thats what you are after. I like Ron....and I know he feels my pain. Pat is there to keep things going..and he will inform you of the details. I think Ron is harmless..and he adds to the enjoyment of listening to the game on radio....for me anyway. Obviously...some people dont feel this way.

I love listening to Ron and Pat broadcast games. If you're looking for in depth analysis of the game, then you're obviously not gonna get that from Ron. But I get a kick out of listening to them, and they make the games extremely enjoyable to listen to. Plus, I like that Ron wears his heart on his sleave. I like the fact that he gets even more over Cubs losses than I do.

I really agree with you on this. It is entertaining and that's what the broadcast is supposed to be to the majority of listeners. `In depth discussions of stats is very boring to the majority of the general public. The radio broadcasts are aimed at the general public and Santo's living and dying the game is appealling to many.

I don't need an indepth discussion of stats. I need an announcer that can concentrate and talk about the game, without blowing smoke up undeserving butts and trailing off onto tangents that have nothing to do with the game. Keep Ron for occasional diversions, but they need to do a better job talking about the baseball games.

My thoughts exactly. Ronny going crazy in the booth on big plays for the Cubs get me even more excited than usual.

Both broadcast teams are terrible. Santo is McDonough's boy and could care less what the Cub fans think. Santo has such an inferiority complex about himself, that it just drips during every game. How many times per game are we going to hear about his 'medical problems'? It was at least 5 times yesterday and I was only able to listen for part of the game.

Brenly is no better. In reading the lineup at the bottom of the 1st, he had Jerry Hairston at second-not Walker. Not only had Walker batted in the top of the 1st, he was on the screen taking a practice throw.

This is not acceptable in any way for the Cubs.

I would amend that to say both color men are terrible. Hughes is good, and Kasper is very good, IMO.

I wouldn't. Len has a good sense of humor and has been gracious enough to do a Q&A here, but he is terrible in the booth. I'd rather listen to Ron and Brenly.

The Hairston fiasco was due to a technical mistake. The defense was listed on-screen as Neifi at SS, Hairston at 2B, and moreover Prior pitching. Brenly obviously should have realized that Walker had already batted, but it wasn't his fault some moran on the technical side ran a Pepsi defense from late last year.

Color man doesn't have to equal goofy dimwit. The color man should talk about what is going on in the game, describe situations, clearly present the scenario as it unfolds. In other words, analyze the game.

Please, you guys should try and listen to the other team's radio guys. You thank Santo is bad, well try and listen to Hyrbosski

Santo does just what he is supposed to do, provide color comentary. I think Pat and Ron are the best. They provide entertainment and make the game interesting.

I would rather be struck deaf than listen to Ron and Brenly together.

That'd go over well.

Bob: Did you know Brian Giles shaves his entire body?

Ron: I uhhhh, I did not know that, Bob. Uhhh, I got a fax here...

Bob: I love smearing grape jelly all over myself at night.

Ron: Uhh, Timmy from Wheaton wants to know, uhh, how many fielders are allowed on the field for the defense.

Bob: I used the manage the Diamondbacks when they won the World Series.

Ron: That's a good question, Timmy. Uhhh, lemme think of the answer here. Uhhh, I think that you get, uhhhh, nine players. Yes, nine.

Bob: Luis Gonzalez. What a hitter.

Ron: Is he still with the Cubs? Who's pitching for us today?

Bob: Carlos Zambrano. Too bad it's not Curt Schilling, who was on the Diamondbacks when we won the World Series. I was the manager.

Ron: My hair is on fire.

They provide some level of entertainment, but Ron does not provide color commentary (at least not about the game, which is his job) and they don't make it interesting.

They are both color men.

Dusty means absolutely nothing demeaning, pejorative or condescending when he calls a guy "Young." That's reading way, way too much into things.

But why would a big league manager twice, not just once, preface a player in the lineup by saying "young"? I'm not trying to read into it, I'm just looking for an explanation I guess. I've never heard a manager do that before and I think it's kind of odd.

One of our two chairmen routinely refers to people in our office as the "young Mr. Smith" or the "young Ms. Smith".

The cynic in me believes it's pretty clear that Dusty was trying to emphasize that he has young players in his lineup, not that he was criticizing those guys for being young.

Because they are young?

I get the impression that Dusty is kind of fired up to have two young guys in the line-up. I don't know if this is true, but that is the impression I get.

Everyone knows I am a harsh critic of Dusty, but I really think he likes M&C, and wants them to do well.

Probably because they're both young. Old people do goofy things like that.
