The forecast still has a 40-50% chance of t-showers during the game, although the radar looks fine.

Winds are currently gusting over 30 mph, though.

Blowing in, blowing out, or side to side?

I believe someone said blowing out toward left center field.

Yeah. If it's coming out of the west, it'll be blowing out to left and slightly towards center. Later in the day it's supposed to shift WNW, meaning left-center and center. The balls could really fly out today.

Despite the hour-by-hour forecast, the radar looks clear.

I am definitely not going to be working at my maximum this afternoon.

I hope our professional ballplayers have a better attitude.

Good one.

I quote Eddie Murphy in Boomerang:

"What time does the show start?" (i.e., when's the first pitch, CDT?)

NOTTA BAD LINEUP...EXCEPT FOR JAQUE...BUT HEY, WHATTYA DO?

I'm gonna try and stay optimistic about Jones.. Maybe they'll give him enough days off against lefties that his numbers will be solid.

Hey, Jones has a 1.250 OPS against Harang (in 4 AB's)

So what's his story again? 2 years ago, he was hitting great. That's not all that long ago. Injuries?

Duh. Show's how long its been since I hung out on the game thread forum. Also shows that I will have a hard time concentrating at work today.

He claims that as they lost some of their better hitters, he felt more pressure to drive in a lot of runs and hit for power, and started to try to pull the ball too much.

You know...that makes some sense. Plus...Batting behind Lee and Ramirez he ought to see quite a few good pitches to hit this year. Despite my displeasure with the length of his contract, i've got cautious optimism that he could have an unexpectedly solid year.

A) I don't see how batting behind Lee and Ramirez will help him see better pitches. Maybe a huge stolen base threat will mean more fastballs, but that's not the case with Lee and Ramirez.

B) If he did suck because of pressure, what does that say about his mental aptitude to handle a pressure packed season of trying to help this team to the playoffs?

I think the most likely scenario is that he's not that good. But he peaked in his mid-to-late 20's, like most ballpayers do, and has struggled to return to those levels since.

As near as I recall, the last time the CUBS got rained on during an openning day game in Cincinnati....... it was back in 1968 when Milt Pappas beat Joe Niekro and the CUBS 9-4 in old Crosley Field. Today would be a great day for some payback, no?

They should really cut off WGN News and let Len and Bob open things up early today.

Another baseball season is here - another chance to end the drought!!! :D
